This was a big news story when it happened. Incredibly sad.

MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The man accused of killing a Monroe teenager in a hit-and-run has bonded out of jail.

Daniel Ross Jr., 51, is charged with hit and run fatality in connection with the death of 15-year-old Ashley Dorsey in October. Dorsey was hit and killed along Park Avenue and Eason Place on while she was riding her skateboard.

Ross' bond was lowered to $20,000 from $1 million. A motion to reduce his bond, filed in March, says the state declined to file an original charge of negligent homicide and that the $1 million bond was unreasonable and unnecessary.

Arrest records state that Ross admitted that his vehicle struck the victim and that he left the scene without rendering aid.

They were lucky to get bond, his lawyer asked they look the other way.

I can't stand articles like this that obviously should have an attempted quote from the district attorney's office.

But why was bond reduced if this is true?

Dumb. Hit & Run - serious bodily injury or death is 0-10. Negligent homicide is 0-5. In no way is hit & run with a death a less serious offense than negligent homicide. Pretty intellectually dishonest position to suggest that his current charge is less severe than the charge at arrest.

all i know is...its the saddest thing to happen in monroe for awhile... so tragic for the victim’s family..
also i know his family and they are good people.... his mom is battling cancer, and his brother is too... he (the hit n run driver) is mentally disabled...
bad deal for all involved... i hope everyone involved gets peace somehow.. prayers needed for all..

Might as well not have laws.
