I was a “first adopter” from First Gen iPhone and only tried Android for maybe a week-ish years ago and hated it. (The hardware for many Android is superb, but it’s the software inside I hate)

I’m currently on a “iPhone 7 Plus” and need suggestions for an “upgrade” that won’t break the bank for the “”latest and greatest”.

Also, I prefer to buy the phone outright instead of getting on a stupid “plan” so I’m looking for:

BEST / CHEAPEST

TIA

The iPhone 7 Plus has the A10 bionic chip which is still used by some current iPads still sold at Apple. So it’s not outdated outside of the hardware.

An XR a great value. You can pick up a used one for $300-$400 depending on condition. Amazing battery life and runs all of the current software efficiently. It’ll have a long shelf life.

XRs are definitely affordable now.

Does it have to be brand new?

What is your price range, does GB matter?

I don't typically care for Apple products, but I can't stand using androids.

The ease of use with the iphones are everything for me and the people I interact with.

I just got an iphone 11 pro coming from an iphone 8 and I am in love with it. Definitely costs too much though. I would recommend an iphone 11 for value, but XR is still probably the best value around.

I have a XR and love it. Apple will give you $150 for your 7plus making your price $449 for a 64gb.

Well there's something about Apple updates that slows them down then. My iPhone 7 feels slow. It can't be a bad battery either since I rarely use it or even carry it with me. It just sits in a drawer at my desk.

If you are running a recent version of iOS you can check your battery health under settings > battery > battery health

The iPhone XR is a great phone, but upgrading to an 11 is only about $100 more and gets you a generation newer phone, which in theory should last last you an extra year.

I have no doubt that Apple purposely slows down older phones with updates to get people to upgrade.

Was going to suggest the XR. That's what my wife and I have. I don't know of any of my family or friends around here that have them. We had the 7 and were fine with keeping those, but something happened to my wife's and it wouldn't power back on. She was mainly worried about getting pics off of it, and we finally were able to at the apple store. But we got the XR and switched to T-Mo and I love it. Bigger screen than the 7 or 8 had, but not as big as the Plus models. We got them last year, either January or February.
