Trip scheduled in a few weeks

If there is a travel ban enforced while we are there on St. John (USVI), are we stuck there? My main concern is if the islands just shut down like many big cities are. Plus with ONE confirmed case on STT, I could imagine the virus could explode there pretty easily.

Just being paranoid....I want this trip to happen so bad

I go to St. John a couple times a year. My worry would be supply chain and goods running low on the island. I just texted a friend there. I'll updae when I hear back from her.

Healthcare is a concern, too. If you’re there and anyone in your party does get sick, you’ll be depending on local healthcare infrastructure.

You should be paranoid.

I just texted a friend on St. John. Right now they have supplies but that can change. Those islands are the last to get anything.

They have a health care system there that cannot in any way handle this virus. You need to keep that in mind. The other thing that you need to keep in mind is that other people "want their trip to happen so bad as well" and they are potential carriers bringing it in.

I'm not trying to be an alarmist but personally I'd cancel. I just cancelled 16 days in Spain this week.

Agreed. Zero chance that I’m going there and run the risk of getting quarantined or treated in a local hospital. Look how things have changed here in just a few weeks.

Just reschedule it dude. I just cancelled 2 weeks in RV across the Western US. It will be there in the fall and so will I.

I’m in the same boat. Trip planned for the last week of April to St John. I can cancel and incur no fees/penalties up until 2 weeks beforehand, so I’m going to wait until early April to make a decision and see how everything plays out over the next 2-3 weeks.

Keep me updated on what you decide to do. My timeframe is a little bit more elongated than yours as I’m schedule for last week of April. But still interested.

Isn’t that always a concern anyway?

I would be concerned. I was in St. Johns after the hurricane to do some work and ended up getting stuck there. It was an extra 10 days before I could get a flight out.

Correct. Given I'm not going until late April / early May, I'm expecting closures across the USVI and BVI's in the next week or so. Just don't know how long this will last.

Not entirely related to our convo, but I got a notification this morning that Aruba was shutting it's borders to inbound passengers until March 31st. Now it's just a wait and see situation as to when they'll re-open. I'm following a similar logic with the USVI and BVI's as I have a little bit of time to monitor it.

Hoping for the best and that we can turn a corner in April.

We've decided to cancel the trip. Both of our jobs require us to be local right now. So we can't risk being stuck there.

I've been following the local USVI news over the past few days. A lot of restaurants are closing or just offering limited menu take out. National Park service also is closing, not sure the impact to the beaches with that.

It's just crippling our trip too much to justify going now. We will be back though! Fingers crossed for a refund from VRBO.

It’s a good decision. Their resources are limited and should be utilized for the people that live there. St. John and the BVI will be there when this is all over.

USVI Governor stated yesterday that no travel to USVI for the next 30-days. He's enforcing this through freezing the hotel/airbnb/vrbo industry.

No Place to Stay for 30-days

Still waiting to see if our VRBO host will give us a refund. I think we have dam good leverage now.
