One-time Jefferson Parish political wunderkind Chris Roberts, who served more than two decades on the Jefferson Parish School Board and Jefferson Parish Council before resigning last year just as he was about to be indicted on federal fraud and tax evasion charges, died Wednesday night "after a long battle with depression," according to a statement from his family.

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into Roberts' death, which an agency spokesman described as an apparent suicide. The spokesman declined to elaborate.

A law enforcement source with knowledge of the situation said Roberts’ parents had reported him missing to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office earlier Wednesday. The Sheriff’s Office tracked his cellphone to a wooded area off Engineers Road in Belle Chasse, near the Jefferson Parish line, and found his body there.

Maybe don’t be a crook and get depressed and feel your only recourse in life is to chew on a bullet? IDK... maybe that’s just me.

He was a wunderkind of sorts. Voting onto the JP Council at 21 is a great achievement and he was intelligent and outspoken and a common sense thinking take charge guy. He was out in front with a great future. But he was elected into the political machine that had many of his close peers who were very successful financially. They were all a lot older than him though and earned their money. Money is a slut. People will step out of character for money or just to keep up with their peers. It's really sad. How many people know others who are rich and miserable and can also point to an acquintance that's NOT rich but happy ? Don't let money rule you !!!!

The rich people I know of who are miserable "coincidentally" all belong to either the DNC or are Hollywood elite types...

I know plenty of those, myself included. In fact, I know some really happy people that scrape by and scratch out their very existence.

Alot of it, I truly believe, is how people are raised to either not be greedy or to be greedy, or to be happy with what is provided yo you by the Maker versus the mindset that you are "entitled" to things you haven't earned.

Maybe it was suicide, but some of the details of the story sound suspicious. It sounds like the Feds were adding more charges to make him squeal. A weird place to off oneself. Plus I don't trust anything that happens in Jefferson Parish, perhaps one of the most corrupt Parishes in the country.

What would you consider a normal place to do this?

Hanging oneself in the woods seems more difficult then using a structure like the Garage. Getting a rope to a good branch, do you bring a ladder with you.

I read some statistics and it said about 25% of people kill themselves by hanging/asphyxiation.

Then there is killing yourself in another Parish, maybe this is no big deal, these might be the closest woods to find a decent tree. But it seems like if you you wanted to off someone, you might pick the hick Parish which is perhaps actually more corrupt than Jefferson.

I didn’t see anything about a hanging. I thought he shot himself. Those woods are sort of the closest wooded area on the Westbank, so it didn’t seem that odd for someone wanting to find an isolated spot.

I thought I heard it on the news, maybe Fox 8.
