TE Hunter Bryant Draft Discussion

6'2 TE, one of these new age receiving threats. Granted at this point, i'm going off of what i've read about him, haven't watched any of his "tape" yet. Seems to be an interesting addition to this offense. We have a traditional TE in Cook and Hill, Bryant can serve more of the hybrid TE/WR flex guy. (almost taking Taysom's type of role if Taysom transitions to more full time qb duties soon) I think its important to have this type of weapon in offense that can spread field both horizontally and vertically with kamara coming out of backfield every which way. Hunter possesses route running and running after catch skills.

Came here for the Hunter Biden memes. Got sold a Bryant instead.

I think we should be judging cook on the second half of the season. The guy was elite. I also don’t think he is a traditional tight end. I think he can play flexed out. I think this offseason will allow payton to really get him involved more in the offense.
If the saints are looking to win now, which I still think they are, they probably won’t touch a tight end.

This addition really isn't a knock/slight/or trying to phase out Cook at all in offense. Bryant can literally line up anywhere. We use multiple TE/Flex type formations. Cook does only have 1 remaining year on deal but i see needs for both players short term. Cook is not nearly the dynamic athlete that Hunter is what so ever.

One day would like to find a athletic TE that can block like a mf'er and be able to take the FB spot. Would free up a extra spot most Sundays.

Couple of TE options are out there
Moss LSU
Kmet Notre Dame
O'Grady Arkansas
I really like the Fla TE Kyle Pitts that will be in 21 draft

As opposed to winning later? Not sure why this phrase is thrown around so much. Who the hell isn't looking to win now?

yeah duh every team has "win now" mentality but not every team has a championship caliber roster. the Saints window will be open for one more year, so we ought to do everything possible to maximize our chances. Teams like the Lions and Bengals are instead looking to stockpile for a run in 2-2 years, just like the 49ers did. don't take it literally

Assuming Brees is back and we're in win now mode still, we can't use our first on a TE. Cook was good the second half of the season. G, WR, CB and LB are bigger needs.

Cook is 6'5", runs a sub 4.50 40. He is a down field threat that happens to be ok at blocking (some argue he is worse than passable, but if you are of this mindset, then I don't understand your calling him a 'traditional' tight end.
His flashes of brilliance throughout his career border on as good as anyone I've ever watched. He also has the uncanny (dis)ability to disappear for games at a time/not put it altogether for a full season.
When looking at where to improve the team, I don't think he's it.

A Chad504boy run team would always be in "build towards next year" mode

There seems to be some good TEs that we may be able to get late in the draft. Like the ones from Missouri, Oregon, Purdue, and FIU.

I'm curious to see how the TE's test at the combine. Harrison Bryant might be ready to move up into the 2nd round.

I'm pretty sure they're looking to win now also just not having much success at it. Lol.
