Dropped my iPhone last night and ever since The screen is black and won't work. It seems like the phone is still on as it still vibrates and dings from time to time. The screen isn't too broken but there is a small chip on the bottom right corner

Any chance this can be fixed or am I just screwed? I am offshore for the next two weeks and might die of boredom without my phone out here

If there is damage to the display, it’s more than likely the display, even if the is just a small chip on the exterior the display could be delaminates of the digitizer could be damaged. If a hard reset doesn’t work, you more than likely need a screen replacement.

I think it depends on the model, if it's an XS or 11pro I think you cannot replace the screen on those... Since the newer models have OLED screens. Might have to buy a new one.

The screen can definitely be replaced regardless of its OLED or LCD, it’s just a lot more expensive if it’s an OLED panel. OLED screens are more expensive at $279 or $329 at Apple.

As long as there is no liquid damage.

Thanks I'm probably just going to buy a new phone

But I was wondering if I could fix it while I'm out here or am I just out of a phone for the next two weeks

It’s possible the drop could have caused the little ribbon cable to become dislodged. You would need the proper tools to open the phone up which I doubt you have offshore.

This happened to my iPhone 8 a month or so ago. The screen was shot and had to replace the phone. Luckily it was covered under warranty since there was no physical damage.

I’ve replaced many, many screens and the best/cheapest way to do it is to buy an OEM screen off of eBay. One that way actually on an iPhone. I think my last Xs screen was $160 or so. Simply buying a replacement screen off of eBay or going to one of those repair shops nets you screen with a subpar LED, subpar touch characteristics, and/or subpar glass.

The older phones had companies who refurbished the OEM screens with new glass, and they may now for say the X models...but when I looked for my last one you had to send them your screen. Mine was run over by a car so I needed a new screen all together.

They’re pretty fun to take apart. My dumb arse tore the cable that goes to right side button trying to pry up the flash. I had to replace my rear camera after the car incident as well. Those parts you can just buy off eBay. Replacing the button cable will be a bitch, gotta remove the motherboard for that.

Same thing happened to me. Dropped it right on the corner, no cracks or anything, and screen was multicolored then went black. Guy at the repair shop told me the connection cable to the display was damaged. IN and out in an hour.

You get a new screen or did he replace just the cable? Can you tell a different in color or feel?

got a new screen as I believe the cable was integral to it. The screen was fractured at the corner, but I didn't notice it.
