I won a lottery hunt for WLCA Rice Fields, and it is tomorrow. Anything I should know before showing up? Any one go on one of these hunts before? Please share any experiences with the hunts.

PS I am already planning on bringing some motion decoys and some extra floaters.

I assume this is one of the unguided hunts?

How much did it cost to win that hunt?
Pray for wind and plenty of it.

If you have a half dozen speck full bodies, I would bring that too incase they don’t have any. Idk about white lake but south of Gueydan they have been killing specks on the regular. And hope you get a teal flight, cause the big ducks are few and far between this year.

Yes one of the unguided hunts. Just me and my two guest in a pit blind.

I paid $225. However, I split that with my two other guest. Only $75 per person.

I do not have any goose decoys (only teal and mallards), but allegedly there are duck and goose decoys at each blind already (per WLF details sent in the with the lottery package).

Had much luck without speck decoys if you can call. Clucks work great

Good to hear not having decoys didn't hold you back. We will defiantly be doing some calling!

Would call sparingly if they take a look. Yodels will typically turn them off now.

I’ve heard their speck decoys are awful anyway. Good luck.

I bet the wagon is on its way to pick you up now. They are serious when it comes to ending the hunt at 9am. I'd do it again if they would let you hunt later. That was the biggest disappointment for me.

You right about that. Just when the ducks start to taxi from the marsh and rice. Even just another hour would help.

Let us know how it went.

A friend went a couple weeks ago and there were a fair many specks working, and the blind had speck decoys out. They killed a handful of ducks. I would bring my own full bodies to bolster those and to what I could do brush up the blinds.

It's been a few years but had gotten picked a few times and usually had a decent hunt each time with a few ducks and specks if you can call halfway decent.

*UPDATE*
Just got back to the office. We killed 5 grey's and 3 spec's. It was super foggy this morning. If it wasn't for the fog, I think we would have done a ton better. Other two blinds didn't kill a bird. However, one of the other hunters mentioned this was the first year (in three years of going) that he didn't get his limit.

The blinds were in great shape. There were 6 spec decoys and about 2 dozen ducks. Decoys were also in good shape. Duck decoys were a little sun burned.

They set us in blind by 6 am and picked us up at 9:30 am.

Great experience and I will be putting in again next year.

Meh, that’s not what I consider a great hunt.

Do not recall which number blind. From talking to the guys, all the blinds typically do well. This year (as most places) has been hit or miss all season.

I agree it is not a great hunt, but the experience was great. Hunting on a Wednesday with my brother and getting to shoot some birds is great.

The fog is probably the reason y’all killed 3 specks. But 5 greys and 3 specks is a good hunt especially this terrible year.
