Really sucks: butterfly effect

Some minimum wage people will lose jobs.

With ESPN internal memo surfaced, ESPN may lose revenue also.

Sucks!

It would be hilarious if the cap dropped and AD’s max deal shrinks and he gets less after forcing his way out of NO and not taking the supermax

On the minus side, it also hurts the possibility of him walking to the Knicks, as they can’t clear quite as much space for him now even if they waive all those non-guaranteed deals.

I keep seeing this take and it's not really a good one IMO.

Something like this was going to happen eventually. If it wasn't Morey's tweet now it was going to be some other incident in the relative near future.

Many high profile American companies (Disney, almost every major movie studio, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Nike, etc.) have been doing really shady shite in China for a long time. There have been a few talking about it for awhile and nobody was listening.

Remember, the South Park episode mocking this very thing aired just a few days before this specific incident occurred.

China has made demands and American companies have caved. China made bigger demands and the companies caved. China essentially realized that these American companies were complete pussies and could easily be bullied. Eventually there was going to be a high profile incident that ignited this whole thing.

Considering who builds smartphones for Apple, I’m not surprised.

True, but a shrink in the cap also makes it almost impossible for the Lakers to re-sign AD and add any additional help via free agency and they can’t really improve via trade or draft because the Pels own their trade assets/picks. They’re going to be stuck with AD and aging Lebron making $40m

Point.

Griffin may need to send Morey a fruit basket.

Good, so can we blame China then for helping to create the rise in Cap space for "Super Teams". Maybe a major reduction in cap space will end this crap and actually make the league better from top to bottom?

Potentially.

I sure don’t see a lot of movement in the next 2-3 seasons with a cap crunch given all the contracts just handed out this past offseason.

no, b/c (1) those spots need to be filled and (2) max, MLE, etc. player salaries are also based on revenue/% of the cap

min salaries don't even typically count against the cap

Correct.

Teams have roster holds equal to the minimum contract if they have less than a certain number of players (12) under contract.

In addition, the league treats a veteran minimum as being the league minimum for cap purposes despite a vet minimum for a 10 year vet being about $3m as opposed to $800K.
