Similar to their BBQ editor.

Texas Monthly will have a taco editor on staff. José R. Ralat, a Dallas-based writer, is joining us to cover all things taco, from reviews and profiles to trends and Tex-Mex traditions.

quote:

Ralat began writing about tacos professionally a decade ago for the Dallas Observer and soon launched a website, the nationally renowned Taco Trail blog, through which he explored hundreds of taquerias, trucks, stalls, and restaurants. He has written for national and regional media outlets and most recently served as food & drink editor for Cowboys & Indians magazine. He also cofounded and curated the Taco Libre taco and music festival in Dallas.

I've discovered some great Dallas taco places from this guy that are often in sketchy areas but the tacos were great.

He's really passionate about tacos for some reason.

That's why I put a laughie face after my statement. But I've talked to this guy at some parties....he runs in a crowd we sometimes hang out with. I always try to get him to tell me his secret places, which he will do. But a couple of times he warned me that as a gringo, don't go there.

I'm a fan of Daniel Vaughn. The way he writes about bbq is pretty impressive.

Franklin vs Mueller

This one is from 2012 but it’s still a good read.

Basically, bad people hanging out there and probably doing business there. He was kind of joking but not joking and he told me basically where it was which is not an area I would venture into anyway.

Here is a quote from an interview he gave:

quote:

Yes, but Dallas is peculiar. Here I’ve been walked out of places backward. I’ve been thrown out of places for bringing out a phone or asking the wrong question. That has never happened to me in Texas outside of Dallas.
