I have never read any of his works, but I am contemplating whether I should read his 2017 novel Testimony next. I am not well-educated in law, nor is law really up my alley, but I would like to explore Turow's writing for myself. It would be something new for me, and I'm always open to a new experience when it comes to selecting literary genres.

I am vaguely aware of the setting of Testimony. Set in the present-day ICC in the Hague, a trial takes place regarding a crime that occurred during the Bosnian conflict in 2004. It sounds like an exciting read, and from what I hear, Turow writes in layman's terms so that readers not familiar with legal terminology can enjoy the novel the same as an attorney would.

Could anyone who has read Testimony or Turow's other works give me some feedback and/or recommendations?

I have always enjoyed reading his legal thrillers. Read Presumed Innocent first, then its sequel, The Burden of Proof. They are fantastic. I have not read Testimony yet.

Agreed, really well written. After them I was excited to see a new Turow out, but after reading it I thought it was pretty awful. Had to look it up - Identical. Turow put a lot of work and thought into his first two books. Identical is just mass market garbage he probably wrote in a few weeks. He is capable of being a top writer, though.

Presumed Innocent was a great book, his best work. His next two books were each a step-down from the previous. The Laws of Our Fathers was hot garbage. I haven't picked up a Turow book since.

I really enjoyed a little one off novel he did called Ordinary Heroes.

It is a legal thriller set in WWII.

Presumed Innocent is one of my favorite books of all time.

Maybe my expectations were too high, but I didn't really like Burden of Proof. Sometimes that just happens with me though--I could like it on a reread.

I suggested that one for my book club, and we're gonna read it next year. Good book.

Yeah he’s a good writer. I read presumed innocent and a couple of others set in that fictional town he created. Very enjoyable. His book One L is good too. It’s about his time at Harvard Law

Yea, One L is borderline required reading before starting law school. It was a great read and a good primer for what to expect.

mine too, and one of the few books on my shelf I've returned to to read multiple times.
