Need advice for flying across the border with a gun

My dad has been wanting to go to the Yukon moose hunting his whole life and is finally going this year. He usually depends on me to figure stuff like this out for him but I’m busy with corn cutting. He’s flying out of Monroe which is obviously not an international airport. The times I’ve been to Mexico I’ve had to go to Shreveport or Jackson and check my gun in. Is it the same deal for Canada ? Any help would be appreciated.

I’m going up there in a few weeks. Canada has some very specific rules and forms (and a fee)that are available on the Canadian law enforcement website. From what I could tell the gun needs to be registered with US Customs to bring it back (at least for flying).
I am just going to rent a shotgun (going for ducks). If that is an option it will probably be easier for him.

Just follow the TSA Guidelines for checking the rifle and he should be ok.
I did have a friend that went moose hunting in Canada a couple of years ago, and he said flying in was a breeze. Flying out a lady gave him a hard time, made him jump through hoops, etc. He mentioned something about it all being ridiculous, and she told him he shouldn't have brought a rifle. Just seemed she was butthurt about him having the gun.

I’ve been to Saskatchewan. It was super easy. Check and declare your firearm, print the declaration off an pre-fill it out. This time of the year the flights to Canada will be filled with hunters, he won’t be alone.
ETA: I am assuming he is paying a very good chunk of change to a guide, meeting at the airport and walking him through this process should be the most basic services of a quality outfitter. I’d give them a call.

Got mine in Alaska so I did not have to deal with customs, but tell him good luck

From what I’ve gathered from him it’s a solid bunch, the Lancaster’s. Just trying to make sure he’s got all his t’s crossed. Thanks everyone

I don’t think you can do it. I believe a foreigner has to have the Canadian paperwork in his possession to use his gun up there.

Lake Charles is not an issue. Filled out the TSA form brought it in a good locked Pelican case. Lady put a tag on it slipped it thru the xray, took a few pics and sent it. Ammo and Mag stored in my other checked bad and that was end of story. Same on the way back.
