Their parents' reactions show the difference between big cities where deaths don't seem to matter, and a city where people do care.

There was also a lawyer in California advising them and who wouldn't let them give up on getting the multiple convictions of Eric Boyd.

quote:

"Our final goodbye to Chris...we embraced him in his body bag. We were not allowed to see him," Hugh Newsom, Chris's father, said. "At that particular time, Mary and I both promised we would not stop until Eric Boyd was prosecuted for killing him."

quote:

Gary Christian agreed and said though the family's days in court are not over, the trial's conclusion provides solace. "We'll never get justice on this Earth, but I think we got them all the best we can," Gary Christian, Channon's father, said. "And that's what I promised my daughter, that they wouldn't hurt anybody else."

quote:

"I can go to my grave now satisfied that I fought a good fight," Hugh Newsom said.

It’s the single worst crime I can remember growing up in East Tennessee. All because they were white.

Was right after I left UT and still lived in Knoxville.

It was a carjacking that went extremely horrific, it wasn't a targeted crime because they were white.

Have met Gary through motorcycle stuff up there, both families don't like people trying to inject race into it.

Is there a nonfelony murder/rape?

Don't know the exact law in Tennessee, but I've lived in places where "felony murder" meant you committed a felony during the course of a crime where someone ended up dead. Even if you didn't specifically assault the deceased, they can pop you for felony murder.

It's a stupid name, and I do wish lawyers would have a little more respect for the English language.

There used to be a black power website lauding these things as heroes. Black foot soldier. It was a website frequented by "moderate" black activist across the country.

That story hardly got any press in the western part of the state.

I wonder why the national media chose to ignore it?

Glad there was some level of justice.
