I have a small family of FOX digging up my landscape beds around the front yard of my house. I live in a typical neighborhood and have a drainage canal behind my house and at the end of our street is a patch of woods.

Its 3 fox and I caught them on my security cams around 9:45pm

I dont want to shoot them or poison them. Any ideas on good repellents?

I'm going to try ammonia.
quote:

GOOGLE: The bad smell of ammonia makes it a good repellant Just sprinkle some ammonia around your garden, or use ammonia soaked rags which tend to be more effective.

I guess just pour it on the outer edges of the beds with some soaked rags for the next few nights?
I have about 150' of beds

What about adding moth balls??

If you don't want to poison them IMO your best option is to trap them and call animal control to come pick them up.

ETA: You can probably find a cage trap on Amazon, or they probably have traps at Tractor Supply.

Doubt moth balls will work,my wife tried it to keep armadillos out of flower beds.I imagine ammonia will keep them away, when I lived in subdivision and had trouble with dogs turning over garbage cans I would pour cup of ammonia in garbage bag and tie it tight. When they tore open the bag the ammonia smell would hit them and they left it alone.2 or 3 times and they left my garbage alone.
Motion activated sprinkler will work but you’ll need several of them.
You could try traps but that is not easy, they are very smart.

Thanks for not immediately wanting to poison or shoot them.
You might try laying heavy duty hardware cloth or small opening chicken wire in the areas they're digging---you can weigh down the edges with bricks or heavy flowerpots, cement pavers, etc. They're not going to persist digging in an area if they keep encountering wire mesh.

You can buy coyote urine--it supposedly works as a deterrent. I've also read that male human urine works, too. (Can you go out after dark and "water" the landscaping area in question shortly before they visit at 9:45?)

Put a microphone out there so we can hear what they say.

I'm going to try the ammonia today after work and will do the male human piss too. Thankfully, I just built the house and have beds done, pine straw, but haven't planted anything yet. I think I'm going to soak some rags with ammonia, and fill my sprayer with ammonia and spray the entire beds. Might even spray it again around 9:15pm tonight.

Thanks for all of the tips!

ETA: shooting them or poison will never be an option for me. All else fails, I'll order motion activated sprinklers.

They are in your beds because you have something they want. Could be rodents? Mice, rats, moles? Could be shelter.

Your best bet is to remove what they want. Kill the mice or moles or whatever.

Or if its shelter, make it so its not as "safe" and appealing.

Update:

In the holes that were dug, I put a rag and soaked it with ammonia. Also put moth balls in the holes & covered the holes. I had about 5 of these. I then randomly soaked other rags with ammonia and placed them under the pine straw.

Scattered about 6 bags of moth balls throughout the beds.

Poured about 15 bottles of ammonia throughout the beds.

Filled my sprayer with ammonia and sprayed the entire beds with ammonia. This morning, you could smell the ammonia all the way to the sidewalk.

We had a light rain last night and I didn't see any FOX activity - but, I attribute that to the rain.

I'm guessing that the phases of the moon may have an effect. Since I have about 1/2 sprayer full of ammonia, I may hit the beds again this evening especially if it doesn't rain.
