Semi interesting, longish read on the lost prodigy.
Crazy to think he was starting MLS at age 14.
ESPN
Lotta pressure put on that kid. He’s now 30.

Good read. Didn’t follow him that closely so was cool to see what happened.
And yeah, he looks damn near 40!

I thought for sure he would make a come back after the 2011 gold cup. He looked so good in that final. I think he’s just a head case, and had no work ethic.

Same, we were all kinds of confused when Bob put him on the roster, but when he came off the bench in that semifinal against Panama and made that ridiculous pass to Donovan on Dempsey's goal, I remember thinking that there was literally no one in our player pool who could've done that.
ETA: That Gold Cup was also the tournament where I knew for sure that Eric Lichaj was our left back for the next 2 World Cup cycles.
Whoops.

I think it’s more the latter.
We see it all the time. Some kids I coach are much more talented than others, but they have a low ceiling based on great skills but not being coach able. Kid had the literal weight of his country on him at 14, and had to think he was god. So, he never learned to work hard and develop. Why would he? He was a millionaire at 15.
