Headed here for a few days over the 4th.

On the list so far:
Rafting on Ocoee and Natahla rivers
Barge rental for the 4th
Hiking/Breweries

Any recs on hiking trails and breweries?

In general, the Nantahala is a cooler area than Ducktown, but the Ocoee is much more fun that the Nanny. If you do the Ocoee first, the Nanny won't even get your heart rate up.

Pizza by the River is a cool spot on the Nanny, check it out.

The Gee Creek Trail is a fun one.

Nantahala Brewery, of course! Mountain Layers (right on the Tuckasegee River) is good too

If you like driving, The Dragon, Hellbender, Cherohala Skyway, Blue Ridge Parkway. The Nantahala Brewing Taproom and the Smoky Mountain Train Museum is in Bryson City. Take a ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. Soda Pop's Ice Cream Parlor is also in Bryson City. Nantahala National Forest, Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Fontana Lake and dam. Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum in Maggie Valley. The casino in Cherokee. There's a bunch of stuff to do in the Nantahala region.

We used Rolling Thunder River Company for rafting, it was great and cheaper than NOC

Staying at or near the NOC? The Appalachian Trail goes right through there (pretty good climb our either direction you go). Just expect the rivers to be packed with rafters over the fourth, still a fun trip though.

Someone has already recommended the Art Loeb trail.. not sure exactly how close it is but it is a nice trail.
