ODB of Wu-Tang fame was a wealthy rapper and went to collect food stamps in a stretch limo. They are definitely proud of getting free money from the government. There is a strong culture in this country that views welfare as money they are owed.

I guess it goes back to the families. I was raised to believe it was more important to work for less money than to be given more free money that you did not earn.

In economics it is called the "natural rate of unemployment", it acknowledges that there is a certain percentage of capable workers that will not take a job no matter what economic benefit it may offer, i.e. a certain percentage of the population is lazy.

Because some people are lazy. They would rather have daddy government help them scrape by instead of doing what is necessary to provide their children with a better life and promote positive morals and values. Most folks on welfare probably don’t know where their kids are half the time, and don’t care that they are failing in school. They see their children as a paycheck instead of raising them to be upstanding citizens and pushing them to succeed. Instead they teach them they are victims, with no chance of success in life, and doing so has created and ongoing epidemic of failure at the family level and a burden on tax payers.

I was under the impression that UBI was designed replace all other welfare benefits.

It also has the advantage of providing income to those living in less industrialized areas.

The issue with it (like other welfare) is that it creates an artificial floor. If a job doesn't pay x+1 while welfare pays x in benefits.

In the present and future, low level jobs are competing against welfare for workers.

Welfare entitlements kill souls! We need a Constitutional Amendment stating no politician can promise free anyting to its constituents. No government can provide anything to its people. This problem stems from the L BJ Administration and the sellout Republicans!
