SI - “Every LSU coach has had his game,” former LSU athletic director Skip Bertman said. “Nick had Georgia in 2003. Les had Florida in 2007. This Georgia game could be it for Ed.”

Also, The Advocate sports section notes that since 2000, no LSU team has ever beaten a no.1 or no.2 ranked team in Tiger Stadium.

How many no1 or no2 teams have come to Tiger Stadium since 2000 besides Bama?

Florida 2009 is the only one I can think of. We’ve beaten number 3 twice in that time for sure: Arkansas 2011 and Ole Miss 2014

Here’s where Skip’s quote came from. The actual SI article

How many have we played? Alabama in 2008, Alabama in 2012, Alabama in 2014, Alabama in 2016, Florida in 2009, Florida in 2001...anyone else?

I’ve been thinking about the same and haven’t found anything else. We’ve beaten the number 3 team twice. They could just say we haven’t beaten Bama in a long time and that would be sufficient

I could see LSU losing to Florida, beating Georgia then losing to Mississippi State.

Alabama in 2012 and 2016. I thought 2014 too but Mississippi State ( ) was #1 when we played Alabama.

SC was also #3 in 2012.

Auburn had to have been ranked fairly high in 05.

But I’m on board with Skip’s quote. DiNardo also had #5 Auburn in 95. Magic.

This could and should be his statement game (after 26 games it’s put up or shut up time).

I don’t think we win, but I also didn’t think we’d beat Auburn, which I actually thought all offseason was our second toughest game aside from Alabama.

He has to get a NY6 Bowl this year and since he came up short against Florida he now has to get a W over Georgia or Alabama.

This is obviously the better shot, so it really is a monumental game for O and the future of this program.

Let’s ride

Not sure exactly the years, but we've beaten highly ranked S. Carolina and Auburn teams too.

But all our wins vs Top 5 teams are at night.

UGA 2003 was a day game.

2010 Bama was a day game... but not sure what they were ranked.

Yeah obviously #1 Florida was his best win but hell that was also pretty much the last big win he had. I’m not sure he beat another ranked team after that game.

Skip is talking about big wins that set up great runs by the coaches and defined their tenures, so I think Auburn in 95 is more in line with what he’s talking about because that set off the really good run he had from 95-97

Miss State in 1998 was his next and last ranked team he beat.

Just looked and they were 24, good call baw

Hard to believe that great UF win was pretty much the end. I remember going into that 98 season thinking we were going to be so fricking good.

1-13 in the SEC the next two seasons and he was gone

If y’all think we’re gonna beat Uga this weekend you’re out of your mind. Uga is more talented than Florida on the o line and at RB and has competent QB. That LSU performance was a joke last week and this team has huge holes (literally/figuratively), defense is not what we thought they were.
