First...is saturday before easter a typically slow night? the restaurant was empty.
Second...party of 6. waiter apologized at first, saying he was new and very nervous. we told him no problem, just relax. apparently he took that literally.
took 15-20 mins to get our first drinks. we were thirsty, and empty drinks were not noticed.
Waiter took our orders for appetizers, told us there was no crabmeat (completely out of the waiter or restaurant's control). The apps came out in the expected amount of time. these were all executed pretty well, except the escargot, which my sister had. They were very bland, did not taste any garlic. i had the oysters en brochette, and they were excellent. this was the peak of the evening.
I ordered the ribeye medium rare. My brother ordered the ribeye medium rare. He said his was pretty well cooked, maybe a little rare for his taste, but ok. Mine was Pittsburg, or black and blue, style. It was not enjoyable.
My mother ordered the fish almandine and said the almonds didn't taste like they had been cooked at all. she was very disappointed.
We brought our own cake from Ambrosia for dessert, and that was delicious.
I didn't blame the rookie server. He was obviously in over his head. My problem was that there was no one backing him up. He did not have anyone helping him out, watching his back, or trying to mentor him in any way. No manager ever came to ask us how we were doing, how our meal was (the restaurant was empty, only one more table occupied). I don't think I saw one employee that looked over the age of 25 the whole time we were in there.
I wasn't paying the bill, so i didn't raise a stink with management, if they were even there. but that was the worst restaurant experience i have had in a long time.

edited, hit post a little too quick. I've had that problem before. My wife says it happens to everyone.

I was not impressed at all last time I went. Food was meh, had empty water glasses and the server never checked on the table. It's getting harder and harder to find quality food and service around the BR area anymore. Looks like I'll stick with Ruth's and LA Lagniappe.

It’s not limited to BR. I’ve noticed this elsewhere too.

Not a fan of the place.

Of course, the original location is the most overrated restaurant on the planet.

It's never been good.... ever.... in my opinion. Moving locations didn't help. One of the things that makes Galatoire's in New Orleans so grand is that you have waiters who have been there for decades, not some LSU students who are constantly looking at their cell phones seeing how much longer until they get off.

The place does a disservice to the New Orleans locations name. People trying it for the first time at the Baton Rouge location probably think people are crazy for raving about the name.

Exactly what I’ve always said. Last time we went, about a year and a half ago, they had three other tables in there, and everything was bad. I felt like they stole our money. This place place has been on borrowed time for a surprising amount of time.
