it's OK to offer really young kids,

but why accept a commit until their senior year?

the coaches oughta tell the kids we're offering because we like ya. don't commit until we get within a year of signing day. enjoy the process, and we'll stay in touch.

What’s the harm in them committing?

If they want to look elsewhere it will happen if they are committed or not.

I guess in hopes they do what Kardell did and shut in down early and recruit for you.

Because often times that commitment to a program will get the player more attention and more offers.

Right. The downside of that is you'll have people blowing you up all the time
