I was recently awarded a ticket for failing to make a complete stop at a 4-way in Woodville, Ms.

I live in La. Is my insurance going up if I don't drive there and talk with the judge to keep it off my record?

Or can I just mail in the payment and not sweat a premium increase?

Just call the number on the ticket and ask "is there anything I can do to keep this off my record". They will usually just say "sure, send this amount to this address".

I did that. I was told I had to go to the court date at 6am and talk to the judge.

Trying to avoid that.

As long as you aren't planning to switch insurance companies, its unlikely your current insurer will even find out about it. They run driving record reports from the DMV when you're taking out a new policy, but not very often after that because the DMV charges them something like $18 per driver every time they run those reports.

I have had multiple out of state tickets and they never showed up on my insurance. All in small jurisdictions which I am sure is the key. Those folks are t making the effort to report shite. They just want their speed trap money. Hell, one in a tiny town in TX instructed me to mail a check to a P.O. Box. Check was made out to the Judge. Not kidding.

Just remember- affect is a verb, effect is the noun that results.

If you don’t give your insurance company any reason to re-run your record, they may not know about it.

Call and speak to the clerk. If she can't help you, call, get the info for, and speak to the prosecutor for your case. Be EXTREMELY polite and explain your situation, particularly the out-of-state part of it. It may not help, but I've had good luck this way. In any case, I don't believe you should expect it to affect your insurance much, if at all.

I'm not being critical here, but you actually did not. It's an easy mistake, especially because of how you wrote the thread title.

"What are the effects(n) on my insurance?"

vs.

"How will this affect(v) my insurance?"

Good luck!

It wont be in the LA DMV system and insurers don't typically run out of state because of the cost...you should be fine.
