The results of the 2017 United States Senate Special Election In Alabama were surprising. Even more surprising is who came in third – the head coach for the local college football team.
Nick Saban, head coach for the University of Alabama football team received 20,500 write-in votes for the election to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions, yes, even despite losing the Iron Bowl.
Some Alabama residents were so admit about nominating him, they even paid for and ran ads to inform others how to write in Saban as their vote.
The propaganda clearly caught on, as Saban received more votes than the margin of victory between Ray Moore and Doug Jones (9k).
Perhaps the most Alabama thing to ever happen.

Does this mean he'll quit coaching and throw his hat in the political ring?

Least surprising thing about this race.

Imagine what the White house press corps would think about Saban!

That's like 90% of write in votes.
Sorry, I'm going to have to see something a little better than an article by NFLmemes on dailysnark.com

Yeah I'm calling BS on this. I'm thinking they just put the "write in" number at the time and said they were all for Saban. The total number was 22,819. I'm thinking this is parody.

oh, so saban gets to make the general election without winning a primary? apparently, it doesnt just happen for his football teams.

After one day of him being WH Press Sec they'd beg for Sarah to return. Even Jim Acosta would apologize.

No he didn't. The write votes have not been tallied.

They won't know the write in tally for a while, but Saban is always a popular choice.

Jones 671,151
Moore 650,436
difference of 20,715 votes - so he basically got the margin of victory.
Also - Nick rarely loses twice in one year.

It's certainly plausible. The last time Sessions ran against another candidate in 2008, there were only 2417 write-ins. To get nearly 23k in a race this contested is essentially unprecedented.

He would have them questioning their very existence after he got finished with them. Saban has an extremely sharp mind. He'd make the press corps look extemely silly

Would have been cool if he processed the rest of the country.
