i've been preparing for this day a long time. our new house is almost done and with that i am putting a new TV in the living room. fricking psyched.

my plan is for a 65 inch. All the deals on 4K LED's make it seem like a no brainer, but is paying slightly more for an OLED worth it?

or to wait until the right deal appears on an OLED.

thoughts?

If you have a bright room and/or watch a lot of sports I'd buy a good LED over an OLED.

This.

My friend just bought an OLED and he said when QBs throw it looks like the FB is doing mini warps across the screen.

I am looking at a QLED for next year most likely.

though i like a dimmer room, our new house is practically all windows. so LED might be where it's at.

but i'm a plasma guy, still have one now and i love it. i hate when the black on an LED isn't dark enough, which is one of the reasons i'm leaning to OLED.

i read about refresh rate, and they are supposed to be fairly similar in regards to sports and such. maybe not though....

If you go LED, make sure you get one with full array local dimming. You'll still get blooming artifacts, but it's got to be better than the edge-lit sets that try to do it with a small number of horizontal rectangular strips going down each half of the screen. I returned a rather expensive Sony that did that in 2013 and bought a Panasonic plasma, an ST60, the last of its kind, which I still have. My next TV will be OLED.

QLED is the exact same technology in LED televisions today. Just Samsung marketing gimmick trying to make it sound like OLED.

If you are a plasma guy and want those awesome contrast ratios with deep blacks. OLED is your only option... However the LED TVs with local dimming are a lot better than most of the edge lit TVs you see today

Do not let Samsung sell you. The LG Oled is the superior product.

2017 LG oled b series is incredible. Great prices too. No need to shop for anything else. I have the older ef6500 oled lg and love it.

Big oleds have room to grow and are the future, but don't discount a led panel as inferior just because.

Really depends on your budget.

A note on OLED. It looks amazing.. truly.

But if you play video games you may want to consider LED with good local dimming instead as input lag and motion blur sucks. Also OLED to this point is not as realiable.

Personally i have a projector but thats another topic.

Here ya go the best tv reference on the net.

I remember those threads. Glad the panny is still rocking

I still have 3 plasmas but 1 is currently on the sideline needing a board change just haven’t had the time or energy to mess with it

Funny people saying QLED is a gimmick. This is the same board that raved about those Samsung TVs last year. Yes, calling it QLED is a marketing ploy but it still has the quantum dot technology which is not a gimmick. What's bad is people buying TVs marketed "HDR" with 8 bit panels.

So I've been checking out all the tVs at various retailers and I'm blown away at how good the OLEDs look.

I'll be having my eye on a C series LG coming up soon.

I just went from a Pioneer Elite Kuro plasma to the Sony A1E OLED...with a 4K signal, it is stunning...with a 480p from cable, I preferred the Pioneer Elite.

This runs counter to everything I’ve read or heard about OLED. I’ve read that it’s the best at motion rate and keeping judder to an absolute minimum. Would love to hear from others that have OLED TVs and their experience with watching sports.

Nice. For people who have watched the Elite for all those years I don't even try to have the conversation of why I prefer the Z9 over the A1E. If you loved the Elite, which who doesn't, the A1E is the right fit. Even though it makes it a PITA to mount the panel being the speakers is pretty neat. The audio actually comes from the portion of the screen where the sound is coming from. So if a plane flys across the screen the sound will also move across the screen. Of course that is if you are using the TV for audio.

The best way to describe live sports on an OLED vs a high end LCD like the Z9 is with the OLED it almost like you aren't watching a live sports event but instead a movie of a sporting event. Watching the same event on a good LCD, like the Z9, and it's like being at the game. It looks like a live event and not a movie of a live event.
