Anyone been? How long do the tours take? Any suggestions on where to spend time while there? Living in Houston figure it may be worth going to check it out

If you end up going to NASA, drive a few miles north to Ellington Field and see this place. I have newfound respect for historic military aviation...these things were nothing short of beautiful.

I went about 10 years ago. There were some shows and exhibits. The tour was cool. They take you to mission control from the 60s and 70s. I can't remember how long the tour takes.

For me, it was one of those places that I am glad I visited, but I don't think I'll go again.

Those Corsairs are my favorite plane.
Such a sleek look to them.

Think I would have to go just to see the enormity of a V-2 missile in person.

We went in February. Spent about 7 hours there. Could've easily spent significantly more or less time though, depending on how involved you want to get with the exhibits or movies.

Sign up online ahead of time for tram tour times if you go on a Saturday though. It'll cut your wait time that exists for the standby group.

I toured NASA one time many years ago. From what I remember, the displays and history exhibits were mostly about the Apollo missions of the 1960's and 70's. It was very archaic, but historic.

As mentioned, there's a museum at EFD airport and the Lonestar Aviation Museum at the Galveston airport, which is pretty neat, and not very far down the interstate.

If you have not seen NASA in Houston it's worth the trip
Beware of the summer camp field trips and school field trips.
The tram tour takes you to Mission Control, the memorial for Challenger, drive by the Space Shuttle and the big building that houses the large rockets and other stuff.
It makes you feel really small.
The main building has several exhibits and movies you can go watch.

Go when it opens.....plan ahead and print out your tickets for the tours(free online) and you will reserve your time slots and by pass huge lines!

Very much worth it!

Like a previous person said, you can spend more/less over there...just depends on the crowd you are with etc....We brought our kids and our youngest was getting tired/cranky...also was hot out so kind of drew us to wanting to get out of there and grab lunch. Fun experience though but def get there before the crowds so you can enjoy it!

I took family there for 1st time last month. We did the scheduled times for the Tram and it definitely saved quite a bit of wait time. Mission Control and some of the buildings look ancient, not sure if that is the point or if it's a reflection of the organization being on the decline.

My kids favorite part was one of the simulated rides that cost an extra $5-7 per person.

Also, we did the annual family membership because it was about the same price as four individual day passes. Possible that we'll go back again in next 12 months.

May be going visit the space center tomorrow.
Do you have to get the tram tour? Or can you just walk around to whatever exhibits you want to?

I've never been before so any tips are welcomed.

For what it's worth I'm most interested in the Saturn-V and the Gemini Missions (the coolest missions in my opinion)

Tram isn't an additional cost. It's included with your admission price. But to ride the tram requires a timed ticket to board it. I would suggest selecting it online ahead of time to avoid the potentially long standby lines. But I don't believe you can get out to those facilities you want to see without riding the tram.

Check the weather as well
The trams are open so with really bad rain they might not run that particular day.
