Been binge watching this show. Have really enjoyed it. As with all "historical" tv series/movies, I research it to see how accurate they are. I came across some interesting info; the great-grandfather of Benedict Arnold had many kids, whose descendants include:
George H W, George W, and Jeb Bush
Mitt Romney
Millard Fillmore
James Garfield
FDR
Ulysses S Grant
Thomas Dewey (lost to FDR and more famously Truman)
John Huntsman (former gov of Utah)
William Kitchin (former gov of North Carolina)
Sarah Palin
Adlai Stevenson
The Dulles family
Joseph Smith, and other early leaders of LDS
Wild Bill Hancock
Henry wadsworth Longfellow
The Post family that started Post cereals and General Mills
Jane Stanford (founder of Stanford university)
JP Morgan
Clint Eastwood
Kevin Bacon
Shirley Temple
Brooke Shields
Maggie and Jake Gyllenhall
And many more

Simcoe was not the maniacal sociopath that he is portrayed as in the series. He was in charge of one very questionable raid where 10 colonial soldiers were killed in their sleep. He went on after the war to be a very influential official in Upper Canada and has streets named after him and statues for his post war deeds. He was not the insane sociopath that they make him to be in the show but I guess they needed to pick someone to be the villainous antagonist. I would be kind of pissed off if I were one of his descendants.

In fact in Ontario as a kid, I remember celebrating simcoe day on the first Monday in august--Statutory holiday long weekend. Now celebrate might be the wrong word as I remember nothing about the man.

What I found fascinating in the first two seasons was that the Colonials who broke away were literally traitors and terrorists to many of their neighbors. History proved them victors but it must have taken some real balls to make that decision not knowing how things would go.

Just told my wife about what you said about Simcoe. She said, "so you're telling me he doesn't get killed?"

Agree that every season has been better than the last. Abe's temper gets him in trouble, much like Arnold.

I thought it dipped last season but has gotten better this season.

Yeah, it's really disappointing to me knowing that if the series stays historically accurate then Simcoe doesn't die.

This actually really disappointed me. I did some research on Simcoe myself, and I thought it was kind of crappy that they decided to make him into an evil character.

I really think Simcoe's character is a combination of British soldier Banastre Tarleton. He shares similarities to Col. Travington on the Patriot and Simcoe
