Was Kirby Smart. UGA had to have him and so did everyone else.

Look at that disaster. Lost to Ga Tech today.

Kirby Smart was a massive risk. It wasn't a good hire for Georgia.

I don't recall a hot market for Kirby Smart.

Agreed OP. It would have been fun finding out the risk vs reward for another unknown, but we got who we got and as long as he slam dunks OC and QB, he should do well.

But people are acting like he just signed a lifetime deal. This is basically another interim year or two. He fails he won't be here long.

It relates to the devil you know vs the devil you don't. Tom Herman is "hot" but is he really that good? I think he would have been a risk, albeit with potential big reward, but kind of unproven in a way. I equate a head coach at Houston about the same as a major coordinator position in the SEC.

That's the thing though. All of the blame and reward will be given to the coordinators. Orgeron will get a pass for everything. If they fail, they won't get rid of him. It's a lose lose for LSU.

Jury is still out.

Will reserve the right to decide on CKS until Thanksgiving weekend 2019.

how do we "know" anything about Orgeron?

he's never been a full HC here. he hasn't been a legit HC in almost a decade (and he was historically bad)

hell, he's only been at LSU for a very short amount of time

Tom Herman might just be the next Kevin Sumlin. We went cheap and dependable. I'm good if O hires good OC and nabs top 5 recruiting class.

Keeping the culture together, recruiter, etc. yes doesn't translate to wins all the time but it's a good start vs starting over again.

And I'm not on O hire fan. Like the guy but we could have done much better I think.

My problem is not that O was hired in the end. My problem was that there was absolutely no search conducted to find out who the best choice could be. He is the choice until he loses to Florida then he wasnt? The whole thing is nonsense
