There is a Hilton property (Hampton maybe, don't remember) at Washington Navy Yard, right next to Nationals Park - some rooms may even have stadium views.

There is also a Navy Yard Metro stop, so you hop on and ride into the monuments.

President Richard M. Nixon: Well, where are you staying?
Forrest Gump: It’s called the Hotel Ebbott.
President Richard M. Nixon: Oh, no, no, no, no. I know of a much nicer hotel. It’s brand new. Very modern. I’ll have my people take care of it for you.

This brings to mind... you could always stay here...

I'm in DC for work right now. I always stay at the Hilton Capitol, but that's probably a better place to stay when you're in on business vs. vacation.

The metro is pretty easy to navigate. Stay a bit further out and use it and you can save some money.

Stay in a hotel in the Old Town part of Alexandria.

Old Town is nice.

Definitely have a hotel within walking distance of the Metro. Nicest "subway" line in the country.

My favorite hotel in D.C. is The Willard. Beautiful hotel a block from the side of the White House. The Mall and many good restaurants are within easy walking distance. Should be an easy cab ride to the ballpark.

I second The Willard. If you're willing to shell out the money, it's well worth it.
