A friend wants to know if a sparrow will tear up their own or another sparrow nest with babies in it and if so why? They saw this happen over the weekend and was wondering. Thanks

For as small as they are, sparrows are some fierce, fearless birds

Probably African if they are tearing up something with no intent to fix it. African ANYTHING is always most aggressive and destructive of its species

Probably. Competition is a bitch. And are we sure they IDed both sets of birds correctly?

Sparrows will in fact compete with purple martins for housing and go as far as to break the eggs, roll the eggs out of the house, kill the young.
They will do the same to blue birds. Invasive species that is not protected and must be controlled to successfully host purple martins and bluebirds.

No...they were with their grandpa and said it was a sparrow that you're up the best and "kicked the babies out" the grandpa picked up the nest with gloves on and put the babies back in the nest but the bird came right back and did it again and the babies died that time..they were already hatched..

+1 and I'd add that by "control" you mean kill every GD one of them. They are the winged rats of the sky. Awful little creatures that are loud, messy, and belligerent. Wipe em out.

They are thugs
