I love this trade, this is a guy that's being picked in the 1st round somewhere if he was just a little bit bigger.

Nice move. We can now dump Roberts and/or Rivers and have a guy to back up Jrue. The fact that he can also play D is nice.

We have drastically improved at the C position and potentially going to dump Roberts/Rivers. Now if we can only dump Gordon (give him away for $1) and get a SF then this team WILL make the playoffs. Book it.

I'm not so sure. As much of a Monty guy as Smith seems to be, rookies are notoriously bad at NBA level defense. I wouldn't be surprised to see Roberts back for 1 more year, especially if we have to dump Rivers to get Asik.

Even so, for defense, I predict:

Smith as rookie >>>>>>>> Roberts

While I don't see how you could be wrong, we know Monty has a soft spot for hard working veterans that go through the proper motions, even if they are completely ineffective.

Roberts' QO is like $3m because he started too many games for us due to the Holiday injury.

I think that prices him out of a return if Demps has anything to say about it.

Just because a player has a QO doesn't mean you have to extend it to him. See Jason Smith who was not tendered and ended up resigning with the Pels because Demps knew the QO was above his market value. Who's going to throw much more than the minimum at Brian Roberts?

It makes no sense to bring Roberts back with all of the PGs and SGs on this roster.

With Jrue, Tyreke, Gordon, Austin, Russ Smith all having decent ball-handling ability, bringing Roberts in makes no sense.

I can't see Roberts being back either. Especially after that interview I bring up about when Monty blamed the Pelicans losing streak on, amongst other things, on the fact that we (the Pels) had Brian Roberts guarding all star PGS. I don't see how we can go forward with him on the roster after that.
