quote:I never understand this comment. Name the team that HASN'T lost "some of the big ones." This is usually presented as "well if there's one knock against miles" as if someone else is immune to that. What miles has done in this era of competitiveness is nearly legendary in sec history. The only names ahead of him are people like bear Bryant, vaught, gen neyland, etc. The problem for lsu fans is his tenure coincided with one of bama's greatest eras which creates an illusion that miles' is somehow diminished.
we've lost some of the big ones

I don't think so, he's 1-2 in Tiger Stadium against St. Nick.
In the month leading up to the title game you'd have thought the Superdome was Tiger Stadium with the way people were talking. Oops.

It's a little early to be drawing out the nega-tigers isn't it?
I'm not biting...just yet.

who would have thought that so many lsu fans would have sold their tickets to bama fans.

Bama travels as well if not better than LSU. Only a fool would have believed they weren't gonna pack the place as well.

Les Miles in Tiger Stadium
quote:
Les has been head coach for the entirety of the two longest home winning streaks in LSU history: 22 (2009-13) and 19 (2005-07).
I didn't major in math or history, but this doesn't seem to add up?
We did lose a home game in 2012 (the sickening last minute loss to the Skoal Drool Things), but that's the only one since #1 Florida in '09.

2005 #10 Tennessee
2007 Arkansas
2008 #9 Georgia
2008 #1 Alabama
2008 Ole Miss
2009 #1 Florida
2012 #1 Alabama
So 3/7 losses were to #1 teams
5/7 losses were to top 10 teams
3/7 came in our shitty 2008.

I'm hopeful the best is yet to come. His hires of Brick, Chief, Cam, and Frank are tremendous. Grimes is probably a good get. Coop was a big loss to NFL but Corey has a different philosophy and maybe it'll pan out well for us. Looking forward to this coming season.

This is really a very telling point that is often overlooked in the "what has Les done for us" threads".
His record of achievement has come at the very same time as the SEC rise to, never seen before, dominance in college football.
Although there seems to be a never ending stream of "poor us" BS posted bout LSU football, my reality is LSU football has never had a more storied time than in the last 9 to 13 yrs.
We have had some failures for sure in those years, but when your football program goes 135-36, 79-31 while playing in the SEC, winning multiple west, SEC, and NC and you want to talk failure, you truly cant see the forest for the trees. imo

Cool stats! I know this is an old topic, but small fix for OP: The longest winning streak goes from 2009-12, thanks to that Bama loss. Everything else looks good though.

Forget stats. All you need to know about the guy is this:
"It was Senior Night. I've got to tell you something,I went to the field with 16 or 17 seniors, and every one's contributions to our team is noteworthy. Every one of them. There is not a guy on that list of men who hadn't had a great a career, who hadn't given tremendous effort and energy to his team. Who in fact played a lot of football, made plays today and made plays throughout his career. Whether he is a scout team player, a guy that plays sparingly or a guy that was highly-recruited and played his butt off, gave us leadership, is getting his degree and whose contribution was very significant, and will be for the next two games.
I want you to know something. It would be said about my career at Michigan. It was a flop. I underplayed my own expectations. My head coach probably would have told me that you overplayed your physical limitations. My point to you is,there is no such thing as a flop that takes the field for our football team.
Just so you know, I'm proud of those men. How easy it could have been to say it was their (Ole Miss') night. Spectacular group of men."

And his record vs. nick saban in tiger stadium is what, 1-3?
it's 1-2, and his record against saban in tuscaloosa is 2-2. pretty good imo considering alabama has been ranked #1 about 5 of the 7 times they played
