Question about fishing license at Sabine Pass

A buddy of mine invited me to go on a fishing trip to Port Arthur and we're supposed to go nightfishing a few nights at Sabine Pass. What licenses do I need to be in the clear? I've fished maybe 5 times max in my life so don't know much about licenses. TIA

Are you a Texas or Louisiana resident?

If you're a LA resident you need an LA license, if you're a TX resident you need a TX license.

I'm a Louisiana resident, sorry should have mentioned. Apparently they have a party barge that's outfitted with lights and stuff. Sounds legit. Plus he had sent me pics a year ago when he had gone last year. All of them limited out on specks each night they went. I may not be a fishing expert, but I'm a drinking expert so I'll have fun regardless

There is not a ton of skill involved in trout fishing if you are going with someone who knows what they are doing. Practice casting a few times in your yard, don't cross someone's line and have fun.

You should only need your LA license then. Have fun!

One word of caution, the reciprocal agreement ends at the beginning of the pass. If you are in Texas waters out there, follow the Texas limits. Also, make sure to launch on the LA side if you are planning on using LA limits. TPWD will gig you at the boat dock in a heartbeat for having an LA limit on the Texas side.

Yep! and write you up for no TX fishing license.

Not sure which side we're launching on but my buddy told me all they use is an LA fresh and salt and he goes all the time so I guess he knows. Isnt the limit for specks in Texas like 5 or 10 or something?
