I love Shudder to Think. Craig Wedren's like Cornell, just unique as a vocalist.
As for Pavement, <3. I go back and forth between S&E and CRCR for favorite album. Though only an EP, I think that Watery, Domestic is the best thing that they ever did.
Also, see sig.

Yeah, I'm with you on Modest Mouse, who I think of as an '00s band. Same with Sleater-Kinney.
Well, Dischord doesn't really have a sound, but it will only record bands in the DC area. It documents the scene. But it's also a hardcore label.

yeah I meant label of indie, of which I think of as a sound rather than independent music...
So while Fugazi is independent music, yada yada yada
I know what INDIE means to me god damn it!
And where is the love for Westing (by Musket and Sextant)?!?!?!?
One of Pavement's best songs... Box Elder

I knew what you meant. And I agree.
And Westing (by Musket and Sextant) is awesome.

I'd nominate Built to Spill as a best indie band of the 90s contender. In fact, I would take the 1-2-3 punch of There's Nothing Wrong With Love, Perfect From Now On and Keep It Like a Secret over any other band's top three 90s albums, even Pavement.

I like this...
I'd go Superchunk's...
No Pocky For Kitty (1991)
On The Mouth (1993)
Foolish (1994)
and throw in that Mac and Laura started Merge
