There were numerous times this season where it seemed like a QB sneak was the obvious call but CSP elected to hand in off to Collins typically.

It was pretty clear the Eagles were NOT expecting it since Brees was getting like 3 yds each time. Either that or Grubbs/Evans was just mauling their guys bc Brees was following the OG each time.

I was really surprised how much of a push they got each time

I've been screaming all season for that and they finally do it in the playoffs...

There was a lot of QB rushing yesterday by Smith, Luck and Drew that you really didn't see in the regular season. I mean, they did occasionally run the option with Smith but still.

I saw some tweets by heads saying that it makes sense that a lot of teams will bust out the option or other QB running plays now because teams have no tape on it from them and it's very effective if it isn't expected.

Line was getting some push last night. Hope that trend continues.

I had this same exact thought last night regarding running the ball

Well Smith is the second leading rusher on KC's team and Luck prob avgs about 20 yds rushing a game so I don't think their rushing was really out of the ordinary. Brees on the other hand was quite the surprise. Not trying to be a buzzkill but just sayin...

Also you don't want to risk your QB getting hurt rushing in the regular season. Everything's on the Lin in the playoffs though.

I cannot recall a QB every getting injured on a QB sneak though. 3 WR + formation QB sneak is $$ in the bank for a couple of yards. Defense has to respect the pass so there are plenty of lanes for the QB and OL to push forward to get a couple of yds.

I have been thinking the same thing all year. It's just common sense that it's easier to pick up a yard or a few inches by running the QB straight ahead rather than him turning around to hand off to a rb a few yards behind the line of scrimmage. Either way it worked!!!

Brees got 13 yards on 5 carries. Seemed like 90% of those yards were on QB sneaks. On that last one Collins did a masterful job pushing Brees because it looked like it was going to be short.

Those 13 yds accounted for 4 1st downs(2 of which were on the drive that won us the game)!!

I think most teams have their own safety rules if you will for QBs running, and that these safeties get shelved for the playoffs. At that point you're in "whatever it takes " mode.

EDT: I think Brees repaired shoulder have made the Saints extra cautious with him since he's been here. This year is the most I've actually seen him scramble for yards.

I think the chance of injury on QB sneaks is relatively low bc no one is really colliding at full speed. The biggest risk is someone on defense trying to guess the snap count and charging at the line with a 7 yd head of steam. Even with that, the person probably taking the impact is a 300# OL and not your QB.

The greatest chance of injury is probably from the FB/RB ramming into the back of the QB to get a few extra yds
