Cliff notes from other thread..

M&M: Do you have a different perspective stepping away?
CSP: Talked to Parcells. Watch more TV tape. Appreciate how special the job is. Missed the relationships more than anything else.

M&M: What was first order of business?
CSP: going to Sr Bowl and catching up with staff. Need to fix defense. Evaluate team and grade where we are at and figuring out cap.

M&M: DC?
CSP: Gonna bring in 3 or 4 candidates. Rob Ryan is one of them. Need permission from other teams for position coaches and waiting on that. Should have a decision in a week.

M&M: What's the legacy of the bounty gate?
CSP: We built this organization. Built on character, toughness and intelligence. Need to make good decisions and its hard to do the right things all the time in this city. The penalties are unprecedented, that will stand out. Shouldn't tarnish this team.

M&M: Players won appeal. Why did you accept without protest?
CSP: Players have union and CBA. I didn't have any real recourse. Followed proceedings.

M&M: Brees said he's ready to move on but he's angry. Are you angry?
CSP: Yeah, but I can't be angry for 8 months w/o going crazy, so I'm ready to move on. Players need to move on too. Need to focus and win games. Anger can be counter productive.

I have hard time translating that into Rob Ryan Done Deal

the exact quote:

"We're going to bring in two to three candidates," Payton said. "I think we'll know in a week. Much has been reported about Rob Ryan and he is going to come in for an interview here at the end of this week. We will have at least between two and four candidates. One of the challenges is trying to get even position coaches from other teams to interview. You have to get permission. It's not a given that they (other teams) would grant that permission. There's a couple of those requests out there to other teams with regards to a position coach. I think within a week, we'll have a firm decision."

and frick espn and it's tmz reporting while we're at it

me too. Why would we waste our time getting permission if we had our guy?

I'm guessing Tomsula and Butler? Maybe Singletary?

I hope whoever gives us permission sooner rathern than later.

I thought the rule was that if it was an upgrade in position (ex. from DL coach to DC) that the interviewing team did not need the other teams permission.

Maybe it'd be a rule if they had a union like the players. It's more of practicality than a rule. Unless it's a coach you are grooming for better things within your organization you usually let them interview because otherwise they think you're holding their career back and an unhappy, vengeful employee is not a good employee.
