Did the field at the Cotton Bowl have a drain crown?

I ask this because when the band was shown during the pregame, they seemed to have a horrible time keeping their lines straight (this happened in two or three lines marching down before the TTR and forming the LSU).

Then again, since it was on TV, if there was a drain crown on the field, the cameras might have made it appear worse than it was.

If the field was set up with the knowledge that the dome would be closed, then I would not think there was a crown. If not, then those lines were genuinely bad.

Was anybody at the game or in the band that can confirm?

Sorry, as a former member of TGBFTL, this bothered me (Wickes verbally reamed me out for slipping on a TTR in Tiger Stadium once ... the first thing I said when I saw this on TV Friday was "You can definitely tell this is not a Frank Wickes marching band." ).

You missed a TTR!!!
I noticed a little bit of snaking and then, the very worst, some horrible turns toward the endzone to march the Tigers spell out down the field. Rather sloppy.

Los Angeles Tiger,

I was in the first row at the bottom of the "L" ... it had been raining hard the day before and you know how the field gets closer to the sidelines.

I planted my foot for the turn to the rear (in those great smooth-soled marching shoes) and when I transferred my weight, the plant foot slipped. I had to struggle to stay up.

Needless to say, it never happened again. ;)

I laugh and smile thinking about it now. But when you are 17, it feels much, much different. :)

I noticed it as well, but like you I can't put my finger on why.

Oh, yes. I was in Tiger Band with you and I was in the last line that marched in to finish the "S."

Our band is overrated. We need to fire the directors.

S was the best spot for pregame. Don't have to move when it flips

(not that you'd know anything about that old timer)

our band looked like shite because a&m's band prides themselves on straight lines and they are good at it. we can't compete with the straightness of lines against them

Bull shite! Us "oldtimers" prided Tiger Band's history of execution of straight lines and sharp turns which was done when we were members.

It all goes back to band camp. if we don't have a solid camp we're never gonna get it right when it counts

bowl games tend to be the sloppiest shows IMO

Yep. Back in my day you had to have Pre Game memorized in order to march Pre Game. B.W. (Before Wickes) band members had to have all the music for each weeks half time show memorized or they couldn't march.

So the band drinks pre-game too. Cut them some slack.

I liked my position in the bottom of the L.

Once you got past the TTR, it was gravy ... right near the student section.

One of my favorite memories was playing the Star Spangled Banner and hearing those champagne poppers going off in the student section ... they sounded like field cannons!

you still do. And if you are in tiger band and don't have pregame memorized you should have the worst memory ever.
