I just typed as it went along. It got buried in the actual "Miles press conference" thread so I just started a new thread:

"I understand responsibility is mine...

issue is trying to use too much time...

the uh... the uh...

the good news is the opponents ran 3 guys on and moved 3 off, then those 3 that left, 2 of which returned... and with the extra opportunity we run a play for victory.

that's my responsibility. it was the WANT to use the down and not give up that down and distance.

the reality of it is "clockage".

we will do that better.

5-0 in my opinion we have improved. we used 2 QBs, we did some good things, we can't turn the ball over, we can't be penalized. if we eliminate those mistakes, and use positives of what the QBs did, opportunity is there to imrpove.

defense playing well... dominant defense.

ridley is sec player of week on offense. giving us good cuts, deceptive runner, powerful runner, running with ball security.

florida is very talented. we watched the alabama game. 2 very talented teams competing. in the red zone a number of times and did not score. statistical differences are based on turnovers and not yards gained. we recognize they are getting better on offense. brantley is a good QB, trey burton in the wildcat is a nice addition, jeff demps speed, talented offensive group.

defense gave up 273 yards to bama, 17 pts a game, we recognize great speed, lead conference in INTs, great challenge to us.

the thing we want our team to do is go on the road and play just the way we play. make the plays we are capable of making, we'll be successful.

now questions...

Q: can't hear it
A: before the series, there is conversation that would involve me, during the series, that's the playcaller. certain plays speak to jefferson, certain plays speak to lee.

Q: juan kincaid asking about mistakes being repeated, gets cut off mid-question
A: it's a clock management issue without question, but it's not the same. NOT the mistake made at Ole Miss. also dealt with clock management here, but not the same. the question will be made very well.
Juan: why such a disconnect between sideline and QB and should JJ have made the decision himself to clock it?
A: would've been easy for us to signal "clock it" the issue was trying to facilitate the call and get it in. the clock it call was the best call at that time and it would've gone in the order we had it in anyway. we would've used the play we ended up using. we like the calls that we made and we did want to move in and out with QBs... (goes off on tangent not related to question)

Q: coach, next time coach management issue comes up, will you be quicker to suggest something to Gary.. you criticized Gary...
A: Ultimately it's my responsibility. I don't in any way need to say who's responsibile. the thing that would've needed to be said was "clock it". as soon as without timeouts, you know the only way you can stop the clock, is clock it. that discussion should've taken place.

Q: It seems to be a pretty popular opinion that you have a wealth of talent, but the coaching staff is getting in the team's way. Are you overthinking this thing? Are there too many different philosophies, Gary with his multiple sets, you with your running philosophy?
A: (mentions stats) have to think some things accomplished. issue is to eliminate mistakes.

Q: Talk about what the process is for playcall...
A: Personnel you want in the game, after that it's the play. First call is personnel, because you may not have time after that. Call then signaled to QB.

Q: With Jordan not managing the game in Ole Miss last year, did you want to put JL in?
A: We liked the calls we had with JJ in the game, but the opportuntities we had rested with him on the field.

Q: can you talk about performance of TEs this season... mitch joseph... deangelo..
A: TEs are making great contribution. Mitch Joseph came through with Deangelo out. we miss mitch now. don't know that we won't have him for UF, we think we might.

Q: How challenging is it offensively to make sure it's not predictable with 2 QB system?
A: both guys can throw. predictability is not the issue. competitive advantage in both instances.

Q: who will play this saturday at QB? also.. mean things, poking fun at you, at what point does that affect your effectiveness in leading? how does that affect players?
A: What was the first question? (sarcastically, snide, obviously pissed at the second question...)
Both will play at UF like they did against UT. I can't comment on what speculation is in the perimeter. I don't operate that way. I criticize and critique everything that goes on in those games from player to coach. We're working on the corrections and they are ones that can be corrected.

Q: LSU had good starting records in recent years, but UF, Bama, Ole Miss .... moving forward what is approach to finish strong?
A: that really is the issue. we want to take it one game at a time. going on the road at UF is a challenge to our team. UF is very talented, but we are capable. we like the matchup. always an enjoyment to play great teams. our team will look forward to it. these things have to be aproached one game at a time... pivotal like all SEC games. opportunity to win... our team is a special group of men and they want more for this team than just to finish with a good record

Q: was Sam Montgomery a dirty hit?
A: don't know if it was. it was a setup, opportunity to be injured was there. couldn't have thrown a flag. sam getting an MRI today.

Q: Stevan Ridley, leading rusher in SEC, where does his play against UT rank in great games for LSU rushers?
A: Great approach to this season, come in to do something special, his practices are attention to detail, the way he runs, he's made improvement. the way he runs the plays we ask him to run. he can have one of those years that are special.

Q: Ridley said you told him the play yourself at the end, did you call that play?
A: The advantage was Ridley.... explains the play... ridley made a great run for the score... yeah i did call that play not being in contact with press box allowed me to make the call

Q: how are you guys doing after hearing jokes, comments.. did your "raunchy" side come out in meetings?
A: the truth is i don't know how it's affecting the team. that's a real answer: i don't know. i can tell you it's important that our team correct things and my job to correct management of the clock. for our team, we have to eliminate mistakes. if we do that... we have a chance to win a lot of games. that's what we want to do. that's been the push. i think they're hearing me, i don't know that the approach is any different.

Q: drew brees is coming into town tonight... some consider him the best QB on the planet right now... at any point trying to get jarrett and jordan a dialogue with guys like him for mentoring?
A: we've turned to a guy who is local maybe drew brees would be perfect for these QBs. they're handling it better than we're giving them credit for. just let them get on the field of play. we have to correct some things, we have to improve, i like both guys.

Q: after game, you were euphoric, hopefully we won't see it again... did you say "damn how did it get to that?"
A: 437 yards, 4 turnovers, penalties.. those are the issues. we're talented enough to score, but we have to sure up the things...

Q: LSU/UF have 2 overall best SEC records in last 10 years. are you ok with the schedule (lsu/uf being permanent opponents)?
A: It's hard for me to criticize schedules that are made. after i have the schedule, i look forward to playing it. i think the schedule up to this point has prepared us for this game. we'll go into this game with advantages. i've never been too picky, i kinda enjoy it.

Q: some dumb question
A: any QB that goes on the field goes in with confidence, our guys understand the things they do well, they should have confidence

Q: Les, explain what happened with PJ, is he hurt?
A: T-Bob was playing, subbing in at guard, PJ got dinged in his non-snapping hand and t-bob went in and we were fortunate he went in and comfortably played.

Q: Talk about trey burton, was bama's defense just that good or is florida still figuring stuff out?
A: Bama is just good. UF's offense is getting better. trey burton is a piece to that offense... talented guy... ran into a very good defense.

Q: At the end of the game, you didn't have the headset, you called the toss, do you have more confidence to get that yard than you did at this time last year?
A: I think our running is better than it's been... a confidence with our OL, our backs, with our team that we can pound the line of scrimmage and get the yards that we need. more confident in ability to run the football than a year ago.

Q: Disconnect between you and fanbase. Blind luck how you won that game. You seemed happy. Fans don't feel like you answer their questions at your weekly show. Obvious disconnect between you and fans.
A: (looks at the dude like he's a huge douche for saying that.. turns away for next question... guy says 'do you have a response?' then les turns back..)... oh was that a question? .... I enjoy victory. Our football team fought their hearts out. For me not to enjoy victory, for me not to celebrate, would've been a mistake. The fanbase, I hope that like me they root for our team. I hope that their support extends to the players on the field.

Q: what did gary crowton tell you about your call on the last play?
A: "way to go, coach." the key is to win, we aren't happy how we did it, the football team understands, coaching staff understands. how wonderful... our players fought like hell for victory... a lot of fight in that team...

at the end of the conference, some dude goes up asking about the headphones at the end of the game "were they disconnected?" les explains they were just taken off, not disconnected, then the feed cuts out.

Jacques Doucet asked it. Kudos to him. Finally someone in the BR media not letting him step away from the question!

This is just his pride. I think he starts JJ but Lee comes in during the first drive and JJ takes 10 snaps max during the game. He is in a tough spot. He can't look like the fan base is right and he is wrong, but at the same time I think he knows Lee is better. As long as he plays Lee enough for us to win that is what matters.

I noticed that too. He had them on when they were in the huddle and when the play was about to be run and he was asking for water.
