Why didn’t we list Mason Smith eligible for Georgia game last year?

He then could have been suspended for that game and might have lost his medical redshirt , but was he really going to play more than 3 years at LSU??

Probably assumed he could pick the game like KB did last year.. until the NCAA changed procedure this summer and mandated when he sits

Maybe because he was injured and couldn’t play?

Except you have no idea if LSU was able to pick the game that Kayshon was suspended last year.

Because the NCAA wouldn’t be able to see the move you are trying to make or anything.

Doesn't matter. The NCAA doesn't have an Injured Reserve or a Players Unable To Perform list.
Tell the NCAA to Back Off

So last year LSU was able to pick the game to suspend Boutte and Maason, but Smith is injured. The initial violation was pre-NIL but they don't retroactively put NIL in effect.
Fast forward they require a 1st game suspension even though the previous rule was "pick a game"?
So previous rules only count when the NCAA decides they do.

No one has said this except on the rant. We don’t know if they were able to choose the game for Boutte or if the punishment was just handed out around the time of his suspension.

The “pick a game” rule is for internal suspensions not NCAA suspensions.

Are you new to paying attention to the NCAA? Everybody plays by a different set of rules. It all depends who you are, and which team you play for.

Terrel Pryor for Ohio state got to choose the game. Played in the bowl game with the expectation of sitting out a game the following year.

Should have made him available for the bowl game

Agree, he was probably moving around pretty good by then. LSU needed to make up some shite and then say he was suspended. The whole thing is absurd anyway.

Irrelevant that he may have technically been imjured.
The NCAA isn’t the deciding factor of an “injured” player or not. We could have said he was “ready to play” even if technically he wasn’t and that game could have been used as his “time served” game. Most likely scenario is we thought he could just pick his game this year so we didn’t bother with any legal “although slightly underhanded” tactics. Unfortunately once again, we got the shaft (whether deliberate by the NCAA or not is unknown).

Pryor and a few of his teammates were to be suspended for the first 5 games the following season. He just ended up leaving to go pro instead and didn’t serve the suspension.

He was supposed to be suspended for the bowl game. The team negotiated with the ncaa to move to the following year.
I’m just pointing out the ncaa isn’t consistent in when punishments are to be applied. It’s not just the next game they are available for.

Should've activated him for the bowl game, then suspended him.
ETA: LSU could get out of this if they really wanted, depending on how much of a dick they want to be. Only problem is it could put a target on their backs. They could take it through the court system. I'm sure there's a judge in BR that would help them out. Get an injunction on Friday before the game, play game, cancel injunction after the game.
