Are you going to be fishing with Deep Mystique Charters? If so please report back as I was thinking about contacting him about doing some deep dropping in late September. TIA

They always bite, question is if the boat you’re on will target size or put a quick limit in the box and head in.

Fishing out of orange Beach tomorrow. Towed my boat from La to try it out for first time. I know I need to go further out (15-30 miles) to at least 90-100 feet of water. Will use sabiki rig to pick up live bait on way out. Any other tips or pointers? TIA

They will bite if you have a good Captain. If not you are screwed.

They actually are LOL. Everyone I know who has been this season has LOADED the boat with BIG snappers. The trouble is that loading the boat as low as limits are and the fact that they are usually so thick and aggressive on any structure that limiting out on BIG ones takes about 20 minutes...and any time spent in the area trying to catch different bottom species usually winds up being a venting exercise. I like catch and release as much as anyone but given the boat ride required it is kind of frustrating to be limited out in 20 minutes and venting fish for release for a couple of hours if youre bent that way....

Near shore well known spots will have nice fish present but getting them to eat is usually tough. I was invited on a trip 2 weeks ago and we spent almost the whole trip looking for isolated, small structure and WORE them out...and filled out snapper limits and grouper limits. Released a heap of fish. I have been on 4 similar trips on the Gulf Coast of Florida this summer and hammered them every time...may be the best snapper season I have experienced. Helluva bad time not to own an offshore boat LOL...

knowing where they are before you go out because you fish it every day.
We just use pogies for bait.
