Best value malware and virus protection for Mac?

It’s for a home use MacBook Pro, so good protection but not business grade pricing. Recommendations appreciated

Well I just made the move to a Mac so I’m still learning. My wife already figured out how to get the malware pop up. I basically did a wipe of the HD and removed it. I thought Macs were pretty resilient but this had me thinking differently.

So you say no to any of this?

Teach your wife not to install/accept every pop up....

Check out the older thread. TLDR: it’s a waste of money. The attack surface on a Mac is low enough that there is no product a home consumer can buy that will be worth the cost. If your wife is not 85 years old and can be taught that there is no scenario that she should install a remote access support tool or allow a random request to “fix” her computer you don’t need it. If she is unable to remember this basic concept, AV will not stop it anyway. 99% of “malware” the average Mac home user is getting is installing remote access tools from emails or pop ups which requires them to bypass standard protections including AV.

3rd party malware/anti-virus software has evolved into itself being malware imo.

Absolutely, at least for any free or cheap consumer grade stuff. Best prevention is yourself imo
