What's the deal with movie trailers nowadays?
Posted by UGATiger26

Seems like the new strategy for movie previews is to bewilder audiences into watching the movie out of sheer curiosity. Call me old-fashioned, but I remember when trailers actually conveyed what the movie was about, so one could make an educated decision on whether or not the premise intrigued them.
Now, the average movie trailer seems to be an enigmatic cacophony of dramatic blares of musical chords, people screaming, maybe a comedic line or two, more dramatic blares, and a few snippets of action scenes or ambiguous dialogue.
For example, I've seen the trailer for this movie "Nope" like 10 times by now. After all of that, the following is an exhaustive list of literally everything I can tell you about this movie:
-It's a horror movie...I think
-It's about people living in the desert
-It involves aliens in flying saucers...I think
Yes, I'm old and I'm unhappy.

I had the same questions after watching the actual movie.

Hollywood is terrible, they need asses in seats, this is how they do it now.

I saw nope twice and still don't know what happened. A giant garbage bag in space eats you if you look at it or something.

I find it annoying that trailers today have a mini trailer of the trailer that precedes the trailer. Here is the preview of the preview we are about to show you.

It’s a reaction against the trailers that show you every twist and joke.

What the hell are you talking about?
This one is pretty damn straight forward, just like the movie's name:
Cocaine Bear

I’m all about the single piano note to start the trailer

It sounds like you’re asking about the movie Nope. That movie is supposed to be a mystery about what exactly it’s about. Personally, I like not feeling like I’ve watched the whole movie after seeing the trailer

I miss that movie trailer guy they used to use all the time. Can't believe no one has stepped in to fill the void.

Check out The Blind Surfer on YouTube. I just heard one if his trailers the other day.

Nah, that was just the one that spurred me to pick my arse off the couch and yell at the clouds about it.
It's a trend I've noticed over the past couple of years. There's probably been about a dozen movie trailer commercials I've seen over the past year that made me turn to my wife and say "I have no idea what the hell that movie was supposed to be about."
Just off the top of my head, Black Adam is another example. After watching the commercial, the only thing I gathered was that it was a superhero movie starring The Rock. Is that really supposed to be the hook that inspires me to invest several hours my life to watch the whole movie?

That’s a pretty good description of the shite movies that Hollywood rolls out these days. Rehashed, recycled woke garbage.
