It was one of those rare days in the gym…..

Perfect diet as usual, felt pretty strong, put the weight on the bar and struggled to match my first set from last week, got 2 reps less on the second set compared to last week, and got 3 reps less than the third set from last week.

I don’t know if most of you get really pissed off when that happens, but man I really have to work hard to move past it.

Oddly enough every exercise after that matched last week or did better.

I realized that I forgot my elbow sleeves for every set on that first exercise, so that could have contributed some. Woke up last night with a major headache and had to take a goodies and still felt the after effects today. Maybe it was a combination of the two??

Have to get it right next week.

Bro as you advance, that's gonna happen. Better learn to be able to cope with a deload and setting rep records.

Could have been number of things, those things happen.

I’ve been lifting 19 years. I understand that it happens. It still pisses me off though.

I try not to worry about stuff like that. shite as simple as you didn't warm up perfectly, used a different bar size, had better/worse sleep, pissed off and forgot to brace correctly because you just wanted to hit it hard and not smart.... As long as you're putting in the same effort, you'll average up

Move to a different exercise for the same muscle.

If stalling on flat bench press, go a few weeks with incline DB press or close grip bench press, then back to flat bench.

My first thought, too. Not getting good sleep really messes up my lifting

Next time you struggle to match your first set from last week, mix it up. Drop the weight and make your new goal hitting a high rep number.

Example: Bench opening is 185 with a goal of 10...you get 8 then the next set i would drop weight to 135 and try to get 20. Try to do that for the next 3 sets.

Sometimes you’re just tired. Or you didn’t bring your A game. Or whatever it may be, you just don’t have it that day. Nothing to worry about. Just get back at it tomorrow and do better.
