I'm hoping the bring an OC and DC that have some strong recruiting ties and could bring strong recruits with them.

We haven't had a new commit in 5 months. The core of this class is strong. It's time to push.

Matt Campbell is also in play, but doesn’t seem like that is going anywhere.

Did Matt Campbell diddle a kid or something? I'm stunned he's still at Iowa State. Oklahoma and Notre Dame should be in a bidding war for him.

Isn’t his buyout like 20 something million? I’m kind of lost when it comes to him also..

Freddie Kitchens was also an NFL head coach with the Browns.

Mike Haywood was the HC at Miami (OH) for a little bit too.

I feel like Kelly has been striking out early on his coordinator hires. Notre Dame's S&C coach and their RB coach have both been contacted and both indicated they are staying.

It's not exactly a normal coaching change. Playing this out to the extreme, they could have a chance at winning a NC.

If they get in they have to pull one huge upset, then anything can go in the NC. That'd be the opportunity of a lifetime, I get them not wanting to leave.

Ed is an idiot and an emotional thinker.

He wanted "attacking defense" and we had the worst LSU Defense ever in 2020.

He then overcompensated (due to the 2 issues above) and wanted a simple defense to decrease coverage miscommunications. It was soft and basic.

After Ole Miss, Lane told him what we were doing was too simple so Ed let Jones change things up and good things happened.

All "O" this.

Didn't expect Freeman personally. Rees is an alumni, no surprise there either. Really, Freeman and Elston would be the 2 I'd pluck. S&C too but they already said no. Everybody else is whatever. Elston would probably go well with Raymond on defense for recruiting purposes.

That is baked in. Consider the chance coach a playoff team on an interim basis. They will all likely stay for that. You have to ask though out of courtesy.

If ND hires Freeman as their HC.. that’s pretty freaking insane.

I agree. I saw on Twitter last night that ND fans were actually calling for Freeman to HC and Rees to stay as OC.

So, to recap, that would be a 35 year old HC with zero years of HC experience and only 5 years as a DC, combined with a 29 year old OC just coming off his second season.

I mean, talk about a BOLD strategy, Cotton.

Quite honestly this is expected from a team that's still could make the playoffs. No doubt we will find quality coordinators and staff

OC would be my main concern at this point, last few games i was satified with the job jones did as DC. If he is retained i wouldnt mind it

I think ND is trying to slow play this until Saturday/Sunday to see how this weekend shakes out and if they're in the top 4.

If they don't make the playoffs, I think you'll see them try and hire someone with HC experience from the outside. If that happens, some of these coaches might be willing to come at that time.

If they do make the playoffs, I guess they'll try to keep the entire staff intact and this might force them to promote Freeman to HC. I don't see how they could make Freeman interim, keep the staff and then hire a permanent HC in January. The current guys will want assurances they have jobs on the new staff, and I don't see how ND could guarantee that the new HC would retain all of them.

Just don’t think ND will hire a head coach with no HC experience!

His DC is likely being named the HC at his former school. Why couldn’t be pull him! Total failure!
