Kelly ran a more uptempo offense at Cincy but more pro style at ND. Anyone know why his offensive philosophy changed? Was he just adapting to personnel? What can we expect next year offensively?

Kelly’s offenses are about 55-45% run-favored spread.
Offensive coordinators since 2013:
- Chuck Martin (HC Miami-OH)
- Mike Denbrock (OC Cincy)
- Mike Sanford Jr (OC Minnesota)
- Chip Long (OC Tulane)
- Tommy Rees
Most OC’s lasted about 2-3 years.
Ranks:
2013: 54th overall. 71st passing. 38th rushing. (Martin)
2014: 67th overall. 39th passing. 80th rushing. (Denbrock)
2015: 32nd overall. 18th passing. 68th rushing. (Sanford)
2016: 27th overall. 35th passing. 28th rushing. (Sanford)
2017: 62nd overall. 48th passing. 80th rushing. (Long)
2018: 27th overall. 102nd passing. 7th rushing. (Long)
2019: 32nd overall. 36th passing. 51st rushing. (Long)
2020: 27th overall. 58th passing. 27th rushing. (Rees)
2021: 57th overall. 75th passing. 33rd rushing. (Rees)
Another way to look at it (for Kelly):
2013: 33 passes, 33 runs (27.8 pts)
2014: 35 passes, 37 runs (32.8 pts)
2015: 29 passes, 37 runs (34.2 pts)
2016: 32 passes, 36 runs (30.9 pts)
2017: 27 passes, 43 runs (34.2 pts)
2018: 32 passes, 37 runs (31.2 pts)
2019: 32 passes, 36 runs (36.8 pts)
2020: 28 passes, 38 runs (33.6 pts)
2021: 32 passes, 36 runs (35.3 pts)

From what I read, he’s flexible. He builds his offenses around the personnel and talent he has to utilize their talents in the best way. I’m excited for what he can do for this team. I’d love a power spread and a killer play action RPO offense. It’ll leave a bunch of 1 on 1 matchups with our freak wideouts.
