Why not? The Civil war ended in 1865. Saban recruited the South well when he came from Michigan State.

ND recruits kids from the south 
Heck at LSU he won’t have to go far for talent but don’t you think he has contacts all across the country bc ND has to recruit nationally ? He won’t take any BS from the players . He may not be the “young gun” so to speak but he is a heck of a coach IMO
