So, how do you reform it? Take prosecutorial discretion away from prosecutors?

I think that the verdicts were correct in both trials based on what I’ve seen.

I don’t think prosecutorial discretion was the issue here - the issue was interference by 2 different DA’s with conflicts of interest.

The first DA allegedly told the local PD not to make any arrests at the scene before recusing herself shortly thereafter, since Greg McMichael was her former employee. She has denied interfering with the case, but has already been indicted on charges of “violation of oath of public officer and obstruction of a police officer.”

The second DA apparently knew McMichael as well but held on to the case for 2 months and repeatedly told the local PD he didn’t think charges were warranted - even after he had made the decision to recuse himself. He hasn’t been indicted (yet) as far as I can tell.

Anyhow, prosecutorial discretion is one thing. But actively interfering in an investigation when you have a conflict of interest is over the line. It happens all the time I’m sure, especially in smaller towns.. but that’s kind of the point. It shouldn’t happen all the time.
