We are planning a trip to SoCal for Mardi Gras and will probably stay in Anaheim. We are planning on arriving on a Sunday and coming back on Friday. We are going with our 2 kids and our smallest is 3. How many days does it take to see the 2 parks? My guess was about 3 days (1 1/2 days in each park).
We also want to go to Hollywood, Santa Monica, and the Griffith Observatory.
Any other recommendations on things we should plan to do?

Universal Studios - Kids like the Tram Tour, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park and Minions. Plan a Day.

Do it instead of "Hollywood" since that isn't really anything but tourist shops.

I've read that the Gene Autry Museum of the American West is very educational and interesting.

My family did this trip for the UCLA game.

Griffith is a two hour stop...maybe.

Is the 3-year-old still napping? That makes a world of a difference in how you approach your day at a theme park.

California Adventure is one full day. It's 1.5 days if you want to ride your favorite rides multiple times.

Disneyland 2.5 days. 3 days if you want to ride your favorite rides multiple times.

If your kids don't nap, you can make better time. Mine napped, so my wife and I had to divide and conquer.

Can't speak on Santa Monica. We had a beach day at Laguna Beach instead. It was great.

We flew into John Wayne. It was way better to rent a condo across the street from the parking garage instead of staying of Disney property. If you can manage a 20 minute walk to and from the park's, try VBRO.

I wish!
Laguna was also a place we were interested in going to spend some time. Not sure what the weather would be the first week of March though.
Good tip about VRBO, I’ll look into that!

We stayed here

Has everything you need. 20 minute walk from door to park entry. 15 min walk to mono-rail at Downtown Disney.

Better to have a full-working condo than to stay in a hotel room.

Did that trip in 2019 and want to go back

Did Hollywood, hiked the Hollywood sign to the observatory

Did 1 day at California Adventure and 2 full days at DL. It was perfect

Very underrated parks. So easy to get around and not 100% humidity and waiting on buses all day

Santa Monica is cool. If you want you can do Huntington Beach. 20 minute drive from DL

I was just there back in September. I would say 3 days at Disneyland/DCA should be enough to do everything you want to do there. You'll be able to ride your favorites multiple times.

FWIW, most of the time DL's version of the same rides at WDW is better.

Agreed with 3 days. We did 2 and it felt rushed.

Y'all should definitely include the Warner Brothers tour in Burbank. It was the highlight of our last trip.

We split our stay into two spots, first part of the trip was on the beach in Newport and then we moved a few days to the Hollywood Hills to be closer to the areas around LA.
