Of the top 15 teams right now, the only 2 that hired a p5 coach from another school are Michigan state (from Colorado) and Wisconsin (from Pitt). In other words, mid tier schools robbing from lower p5 programs.
You’re asking for something that almost never happens, and it has only happened once afaik on the scale of luring a Riley or a Cristobal. The only 4 names I’ve heard that fit the “lower level p5 coach” possibilities are Campbell, Tucker, Kiffin, and Aranda.
And outside of Aranda, I’m not that much more confident in Kiffin or Campbell and Tucker to do a better job than Napier.

Napier could have coached at Auburn and Mississippi State.

You will be downvoted to hell, but you are right. In the immediate aftermath of a Napier hire, the program would take a significant hit on many levels.
And it’ll be fully self-inflicted by Louisiana interests. No one hates Louisiana more than Louisianians. The rest of the nation will understand it fully but the loud-mouthed prideful idiots will fully melt down because LSU hired ULL’s coach. Thankfully Woodward isn’t listening to the boosters that are pissed about hiring Napier.

Godfrey has been tweeting cryptic stuff like that
Napier to Arizona State

If Napier had been the hire AFTER Les Miles, I don’t think it would be viewed nearly as poorly. But this would be back to back hires that by appearances are lackluster. It makes the program look weak and unattractive.
Name me one other power 5 program that would hire Orgeron and follow it up with Napier.

Ok? Then why didn’t he? That’s what you should really be asking. Is he insecure in his own coaching abilities that he’s not sure he could win there and thus ruin his chances at a better program? Is he so arrogant that he thinks those jobs are beneath him?

The orgeron hire was inexcusable but it did result in a natty. Napier is a better coach than orgeron in every way. I don’t think orgerons hire should impact how we perceive our next coach at all.
I don’t know who else would have Napier on their list. But you’d have similar or less experienced coaches on the list elsewhere. Freeman will be the next nd head coach. Ohio state would probably look hard at Campbell and Fickell. The only time you might get a lateral jump for any of the elite programs is if there’s an alum coaching elsewhere (dabo to Bama)

So you know any college coaches? Players? Coaches that have spoken directly with him? Recruits? Are just going by what you think?

I mean if you have sabans process down pat you should be able to win anywhere

He'll get a good gig. He deserves it.

I agree with you. He definitely is a better coach than Orgeron. And no, it SHOULDN’T impact how Napier is perceived, but that’s not reality and you know it.

Irrelevant to the discussion. We are talking from a fan base perspective here. This fan base is expecting a splash hire from Woody especially after his last two hires.

I'm curious what segments of the LSU fanbase want Napier. Is it mostly west of the basin Tiger fans?

It’s the same percentage that wanted Orgeron. Not the same people just the same amount.
If he’s the hire, he may turn out to be fantastic. I hope he does. I’m only pointing out why it would be disappointing to many of the fan base if he is and how you really couldn’t blame them. He is a lackluster hire by all appearances.

Most casual football fans have no idea who Napier is.

Disagree with that
Hiring Napier will actually be lauded the more you leave Louisiana. Not that it’s makes it awesome to think some joker in New York likes the hire, but just saying.

Hiring Napier might just be the straw that breaks the Camels back for many LSU fans. I could see a mass exodus of fans if that’s “the guy”. I mean, why be a fan of a program that’s obviously not even trying anymore?
If he were at any other G5 having the same success, you wouldn’t post that
