Afternoon All,

Just had a new roof put on, and I'm having a disagreement with the roofing people over how they're supposed to re-install my old roof finial.

With the previous new roof, I personally watched the crew use concrete mix before they put it back up.

The new roofing people are claiming they don't see any sign of concrete mix and are saying all you need is a certain type of silicon.

Are they just being lazy or are they correct?

Looks like what you see below - any advice suggestions, etc. are greatly appreciated!

wanna know how to make your roofer say frick you and walk off the job? start telling them how to do their jobs and second guessing their work based on shite you were told on the internet

its really simple, either you trust your roofer or you dont. if you dont then fire them and hire someone else. if you trust them then let them do their work in peace, you have a fricking warranty to cover it if there are any issues after

I've got way bigger issues than this one with my roofers, but there's nothing wrong with asking about this as well.

So do you have anything constructive to contribute?

He's not, but I'll let him pick up the roofing nails if he asks nicely.

Want to know how good that warranty is if the roof is installed incorrectly? ZERO

Tomorrow that roofer will be operating under a different name.

Slate or Tile roof? What does the manufacturer say? Call them and ask what they prefer ...

I used to sell wholesale roofing materials. A roofer customer that did nothing but slate and tile used to order Vulkem by the case for uses that you are asking about.

Google Vulkem.

What's the grey stuff on the front of that piece?

I have nothing else to contribute...we don't see that kind of roofing around here often.

The grey stuff isn't anything different - just another color of whatever it's made of (I assume concrete, since it's heavy).

When they did mine, they used a tinted Portland cement mixture to adhere it to the next tile. Pretty sure I recall them buttering the underside with something else as well…

Thanks - I called up an architectural salvage store who also confirmed that you definitely use concrete mix and not silicon.
