Anyone ever had a Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) with Tonsillectomy as an adult?

On top of that a resection of nasal turbinates and a septoplasty?

I know it's bad....but how bad is it? I'm hearing horror stories and I'm scheduled to have this procedure right after Christmas

What symptoms are you experiencing that led up to this necessary procedure? I’m asking because I’m having problems in that area.

ETA: Googled it and our issues are not similar. I have a dysfunctional eustachion tube. You are basically having a throat enlargement to aid your breathing during sleep, right?

My dad had it when he was in his late 30s. I remember he was miserable for about 10 days. Like it was awful.

Snoring, sleep apnea, and ENT say's my airway is very narrow.

Waiting on a APAP machine but there's a nationwide shortage so they want to do this for now....im skeptical but since we've already met our deductible for the year If im going to do it I need to do it before the end of the year

My husband had a tonsillectomy about 35 years ago. It sounds not as bad as what you're having. He was pretty much down for the count for a week. For 3-4 days, he was on major pain meds, could hardly eat, slept all the time. He wasn't great in week 2 either. It was pretty rough. He was about 27 at the time. He had recurring tonsillitis that was pretty bad that made the procedure necessary.

I had a UPPP done in my early thirties for severe sleep apnea. It was fricking awful. I couldn’t eat solid food for 9 days. Just got by with drinking a couple of glasses of Gatorade per day. When I swallowed, it felt like someone was sticking an ice pick in my ear canals.

I remember being in my recliner watching TV and seeing those fricking commercials for Burger King or Pizza Hut and it was like torture. I would have sucked a midget’s dick to be able to eat a Whopper or a pizza.

I lost almost 20 lbs in those 9 days. Didn’t have a bowel movement for 12 days, I guess because of the pain meds and the lack of food.

Get a lot of pain meds is all I can say. Good luck.

BTW, I also had a deviated septum repaired during the surgery also. Pulling that packing out of my nose felt like he was pulling my brain out of my skull through my nose.

I had it done plus chin advancement.Very painful.Keep ice packs on your throat for about first 3 days,a fresh one about every 6 hours.
Stock up on Gatorade,it was the only liquid I could tolerate.I got severely dehydrated because everything I tried to drink was excruciatingly painful.Water was like pouring alcohol in a fresh cut..
Make sure a family member stays with you at all times first couple days ..I bled like a stuck pig.I went home the first night because my wife is a nurse,it scared the crap out of her because I bled so much, she thought seriously about calling an ambulance to bring me back to the hospital
There was one person in our area that went home like I did,his wife didn’t watch him closely and he bled to death.
Even in the hospital you can’t count on the nurses watching you closely enough. Sad to say but that is the reality.
Good news is it cured my sleep apnea.

Had it at 39 and it was one the worst two weeks I've ever had after surgery.

I had some of the above. I had a septum that was crooked and they straightened it. Afteward for a week I had 1" tubes in each nostril so it healed straight. Also had my uvula shaved and it somewhat helped with snoring but my gag reflex is worse. I once took a sip of bourbon and wheezed it six rows ahead of me on the plane.

The pain, especially in my palette, was rotten. It sucked. They gave me a oral syringe of codeine or something very strong, maybe oxy, can't remember what for sure. I took it for 2-3 days then shifted to Tylenol very purposefully as that strong stuff scares me.

A word to the wise - remain near a toilet after going off the strong stuff. It stops you up for a few days and then it all comes out quickly. I had to bail off a subway train, jet into a nearby bar, and have an uncomfortably fast bowel movement when it all hit the first day I was back at work. Thankfully the bar was adjacent to the subway and clean, otherwise I would've been walking home with soiled drawers.
