A Michigander's Perspective on Mel Tucker

I'm not into BDSM, so I'm not a UM fan. Just a former resident of the state, so I know the hierarchy for College Football.
Mel doesn't have access to the best guys. In-State, those good players are going to UM first. Regionally, they're going to UM, tOSU, and ND first, then to MSU, PSU, and Wisky.
Point being, he isn't getting the best talent, and it's not his fault.
So if he goes 9-3/10-2 his second season, he's doing a lot right in getting the players ready.

Cool. Hope he does well at Michigan State. Still don’t want LSU hiring him.

Mel is a great coach and his time for a big time program is coming. But if it’s true LSU is about to pay $100 million it’s not going to be to a guy because he beat a Michigan program that hasn’t been relevant since Carr. Sorry.

Mark Dantonio had several 11 win seasons at Michigan St.

Mel isn’t a bad coach, but I do not want LSU hiring the guy. There’s probably 10 guys I would take over Mel Tucker.

Wow. Mel isn’t my first, second, third, or fourth choice but the list stops there. If you have 10 guys ahead of him either (a) you don’t know football (b) your list has unrealistic names on it.

Mel also doesn’t have a tough schedule...

You are spot on about recruiting in Michigan. The same is true for Saban and it’s why he quickly bolted to Louisiana. He was competing with Notre Dame, Michigan, and Ohio State for the best of the best. Not a great situation. Whoever comes into Louisiana knows they are hitting the gravy train when it comes to recruiting.

Honestly, there’s no unique perspective that comes from living in proximity to where Tucker coaches, with all the data and sources available out there in 2021.
Not to be rude, but it’s sort of like trying to change someone’s politics by saying “a Washington DC residents perspective on Joe Biden.”

Let me try
Riley
Aranda
Campbell
Jimbo
Cristobol
Kiffin
Freeze
Napier
That's 8 without even thinking.

Jimmy Carter would have made a great neighbor, doesn’t mean I wanted him running my country.

.......and it would be the dumbest hire in the history of college football. He has had 1 good year as a head coach and we are going to spend $100 million based on 1 year? God I hope not.

It reminds me of the guy who said he was at a game as if it made him more credible than all of us watching the same said game on TV.

MSU is not the job in 2021 it was in 1999. Saban was smart to leave at the time. Umich owned the state, owned MSU, MSU didn't have the revenue or facilities to keep up and LSU was just a FAR better destination. FF to 2021 and that has largely changed. MSU's athletic department revenue (thanks largely to TV deals and BTN) is very close and MSU facilities have vastly improved and are about to get better.
To address the UMich comparison nonsense. They have a brand, wings on their helmets, and a large albeit uncomfortable stadium. They have never appeared in a Big Ten Championship game in the 10 year existence, MSU has appeared in 3 and won 2, they have never appeared in the playoff (MSU has), and MSU has won 10/14 head to head. On the recruiting front currently Tucker has a higher rated class and has 5 in state guys committed all with UMich offers.
Bottom line MSU is about to back the Brinks truck up for Tucker and it's a huge risk for them so I don't blame LSU for not wanting to throw Saban money at him. But to say he doesn't have the resources to win shows how much you're living in the past. UMich hasn't been relevant since the Clinton administration. Umich wants LSU to lure Tucker away because they fear him and what he is building.
LSU is still a better job than MSU, just the gap isn't as wide as it was in '99.

If Tucker is hired then we know the new LSU president flexed

I think great coach is a huge stretch. Saban, Bowden, Robinson, Johnson, and Bryant, are or were great coaches. Tucker has had one decent season. He should not even be in the conversation for the LSU job.
