I’m about 15 minutes in. Even if you don’t think there are a few families who control things, the first 15 minutes will make you think about who does run everything. Hint- it’s institutional investors, but there are two groups which sit atop “e pyramid “ as he calls it. And they are intertwined with each other in ways I never really knew.

Vanguard and BlackRock sell index funds to public pension systems, 401k managers, individual investors, and such. They are huge because their index funds beat managed funds hands down with very small fees. I think the only thing you can say with any confidence and accuracy is that equities own the world, and the world is devoted to maximizing the value of those equities and returns on investment. It’s definitely troubling that Vanguard and BlackRock are so huge and powerful, but I don’t get from that that a small cabal is running the world. Like I’ve been saying for years now, the only way to really understand the world is to accept that there are two groups of people: those who own the equity and those who must be placated and made to serve the equity. The fearful on the right talk of a Marxist takeover, while the left talks of a corpocracy (to use David Mitchell’s term) or an oligarchy. I think the truth is that the coming dystopia is a merger of those two fears, a merger of centralized government and concentrated wealth. So I agree with that sentiment expressed in the video. The only solution is to fragment it all. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Some posted in a long thread a while back about a divorce that happened or was happening. The assets of the husband or wife were listed and the list was staggering.
There was also something about the East India Tea Company (?) that was the root owner of a staggering number of worldwide companies and the wealth was just inconceivable. Might be the husband or wife was in the family that was at the root. Wish I could remember or find a link to the list. Anyone know?
ETA I really don’t have time to watch the video, if that shows it. Maybe tomorrow.

Meh, a lot of big money is invested through such investment funds. Take York Capital which bought a plant that was not quite complete out of bankruptcy. All that money was not York's but a sheik from UAE. Well the totally fricked up the completion and declared bankruptcy when it reached the budget cap of $300 million.
